Cars vs. trucks: Are buyers really downsizing?

Chevrolet's car sales have outnumbered its truck, crossover, and SUV sales. But trucks won't become the dinosaurs of the industry. There will always be people who need the towing capacity of a truck, whether they're in construction or towing a camper on a road trip. And truck sales will actually rise in the near-term, the company says in its quarterly earnings report. More



Forecast: Big gas price drop on the way

With oil prices falling to the lowest level in almost a year, a drop in gasoline prices is sure to follow. Oil prices have fallen by a third since May. The government said  that the average price of a gallon of regular was $3.674 nationally the week ending Aug. 12, down almost a nickel from the week before. One forecast predicts a national average of about $3.25 a gallon is possible by September, which would be about a 40-cent drop from today's level. More

GM Frank De Gelas says consumers have become more family oriented and interested in activities they can do together. "There's been a return to basics, and a lot of people are willing to cut back in other areas to have things that are family oriented. We look for the industry to grow like heck again. The economy is against us, but the demographics are with us." More
