Couple logs decades of RV tailgates
The Advocate    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Jerry Leglue, 82, has been tailgating at LSU football games in his collection of RVs since 1966 and recalls an era when game attendees wore coats and ties, hats, dresses and high heels. The first time he drove his RV, he was able to park for free a few yards from the stadium. Now, many years and six RVs later, Leglue pays $5,000 a year for his spot. Friends and family by the dozens visit and eat with the Leglues before games. "The children's friends come. The grandchildren's friends come. They all know they're welcome," says Connie Leglue. More

Fall means camping, tailgating
Marketwire via MarketWatch    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Cooler weather and shorter days are on their way, but that doesn't have to mean the end of your camping and RVing fun. Fall is a great time to plan a camping trip to destination hot spots that may have been too busy during the summer. Campgrounds and parks are less congested, and rates usually are reduced. Or consider the pleasures and advantages of tailgating in an RV: a roof over your head in case of bad weather; a bathroom that lets you skip the porta potty lines; a refrigerator to keep food and beverages cold; and a comfortable place to wait out the postgame traffic. New York launches 'Oh Ranger! NY State Parks' iPhone app
Saugerties Post Star    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
New York state parks have partnered with American Park Network to launch a free iPhone app — Oh, Ranger! NY State Parks — that gives visitors on-the-go the ability to access park information. The app includes more than 200 state parks, historic sites, golf courses, campgrounds and nature centers with amenities, directions and links to important numbers and services. With much of the information embedded in the app, users don't need the Internet to access park information, an important feature, since some parks have limited connectivity. More

Not your grandma's retirement
Bankrate.com via Yahoo Finance    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Assisted living facilities have come a long way from the clinical institutions of old, offering residents an ever-expanding menu of amenities that reflect the diversity of baby boomers themselves. Take, for instance, the Livingston, TX, community called Escapees Care Center, dedicated to retirees who live in recreational vehicles and aren't inclined to give up that lifestyle. "The parking spots are wheelchair accessible, and nurse aids visit the RVs throughout the day to serve meals and help residents get dressed or take medication," says Andrew Carle, director of the Senior Housing Administration program at George Mason University. Campers, keep your eyes on the supplies
The Sentinel    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
There was a time when campers could leave their cook stoves, coolers, fishing gear, and other camping items on their picnic table, go off for hours, and expect to find everything just as they left it. That changed years ago; now, most campers store gear out of sight or secured in their vehicles. As state parks report more thefts and break-ins, The Sentinel in Mechanicsburg, PA, reminds all to store valuables or leave them at home. More

Even during challenging economic times, your best and brightest have options. Failing to help these employees grow may spur them to take their talents elsewhere. They become "history."
