Rolling along: RV industry maintains momentum
The Associated Press
RV manufacturers have made up more ground since being sideswiped by the Great Recession, and production is expected to return next year to levels seen before the economic downturn. Overall shipments to dealers are expected to increase by nearly 4 percent to 361,400 units in 2015. At the National RV Trade Show in Louisville, industry leaders were in a good mood. RVDA President John McCluskey said sales at his Florida dealerships surged by more than 20 percent in the past year, and he’s hired more staff to keep up with growing customer demand. "It's a lot more fun to be in the RV business these days," he said. Airstream President Bob Wheeler said that with dealer and consumer confidence so high, “It’s hard not to call it boom times.”

Thor Industries, RVing along the road to success
Seeking Alpha
Thor is coming off a year of acquisitions and expansion plans in the hopes of continued prosperity within the growing RV industry. With increasing sales and a growing backlog, Thor hopes to keep its share price climbing for years to come. The reasons for the industry's growth are many: Retiring baby boomers looking for adventure, families wanting to travel without the hassles of flying, and decreasing gas prices are a few. Whatever the reasons, Thor and other RV manufacturers are enjoying a surge in sales. Thor Industries' 2013 year-over-year sales increased to $3.53 billion from $3.24 billion.

Henry Ford's pickup camper – the 1st RV
The Detroit News
Henry Ford and his pals Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and conservationist John Burroughs may have become the first "glampers" when they set out in 1916 on a road trip in Model Ts outfitted with built-in stoves and coolers and a truck with custom tents, beds, and lawn chairs. That American urge to explore eventually led the car camper to evolve into the RV as people "yearned to leave their communities and gain new ones," says social analyst and author James Twitchell in a new book, "Winnebago Nation."
