Overall shipments from manufacturers to dealers are expected to rise 10 percent in 2012 and could gain another 4.5 percent next year. "We made up a lot of ground this year," says RVDA Chairman Jeff Pastore of Hartville RV Center in Ohio. "We're seeing a lot more buyers walking in the door, and we're seeing those buyers with more money in hand." More

RV Learning Center honors legacy donors with permanent display
RV Learning Center    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The RV Learning Center now has a dedicated, permanent display honoring legacy donors whose gifts were instrumental in starting The RVDA Education Foundation, now known as The RV Learning Center. The framed contributor listing, located in the RV Learning Center at RVDA headquarters in Fairfax, VA, salutes their trailblazing gifts and commitment to ongoing industry education. "It's fitting to recognize the generosity and foresight of these legacy donors as we launch this year's fund-raising drive," says RV Learning Center Chairman of the Board Jeff Pastore. "These original donors made the down payment on what is now the flagship educational institution for dealers and their staff. We owe a real debt of gratitude to these early supporters who believed in that vision." More

Uintah Basin RV fans find second, portable home in mountains
Vernal Express    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Lori and Bill Lough have had an RV since they were married 18 years ago, and it has become a part of their hunting season tradition. The camaraderie that grows among friends and the stories told around the campfire make the hunt special. "Our RV is the foundation of a camping or hunting experience — it's being able to spend time with family and friends," says Lori Lough. "Most important to us is being able to teach our sons, to pass down everything to our children that was passed to us from our elders. Nothing can compare to that." More

Oregon RV dealer increases land holdings 70 percent
The Register-Guard    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Before the recession, things were going well for RVDA member RV Corral, which bills itself as Eugene's largest RV dealership. Then the recession came and battered the RV industry nationwide. Now RV Corral is back in expansion mode, acquiring a neighboring 3.5-acre lot that increases the dealership's acreage by about 70 percent. Co-owner Jerry McCall says the time seemed right for expansion: RV sales have started to pick up, and service and body work are booming. More

The Star-Ledger    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
John Dias hadn't been out of his house in six months as he recuperated from multiple surgeries, but he was NOT going to miss a 20-year tradition of tailgating with family and friends before the Rutgers-Louisville game. Dias, his mother, and family friend Larry Cuzzi are among a group who have been tailgating together for years. Cuzzi's full-service RV is the rallying point, parked in its familiar spot in the green lot across from the stadium. More

Football fans enjoy camaraderie and friendship
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Thirty-six hours before their beloved teams went head-to-head in the SEC football championship, hardcore Bulldog and Crimson Tide fans already were filling the RV lot near the Georgia Dome. For many of them, though, the game almost is secondary. Dean Tate, who's been following the Crimson Tide in his 40-foot Fleetwood RV for more than 10 years, says that, although he made the trip hoping to watch Alabama win the championship, "more than that is coming up and tailgating with friends and family." New Oregon imported firewood rules begin Jan. 1
KTVZ-TV    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In an effort to keep pest-infested firewood from being brought into Oregon, agriculture officials have imposed a rule requiring the use of either local firewood or firewood that has been heat-treated and labeled as pest-free. "Ash is an excellent firewood, so trees that are dying from pests [in other states] often end up in the back of a pickup truck or in an RV that goes camping in Missouri or Pennsylvania, for instance," says Dan Hilburn, director of plant programs. "You can tell the pest is being moved with the firewood because it shows up first in campgrounds." More
