House, Senate negotiators reach budget deal

The bipartisan deal would cancel half of the sharp spending cuts known as the sequester and boost the economy by restoring confidence in the ability of Republicans and Democrats to work together after years of destabilizing strife.

RV industry shows more signs of recovery
The Associated Press via Arizona Daily Star
Led by sales growth for towable RVs and pricier standalone motorhomes, RV makers expect to ship more than 300,000 units to dealers' lots this year for the first time since the recession. Employment across the industry has rebounded, and consumers who once picked small, no-frills travel trailers are now trading up or buying larger, pricier RVs. "We're back to a more normal market where people are stepping up and buying nicer equipped travel trailers," says former RVDA chairman Debbie Brunoforte, who has logged her best post-recession sales year at her lots in Phoenix and Mesa, AZ.

Santa Claus is alive and well at the North Pole — Alaska, that is
By Laura Weaver
While driving our RV through Alaska on our way to Fairbanks from Tok, we found ourselves in North Pole. Yes, there really is a North Pole, Alaska. The town was originally named because the townspeople were trying to entice a toy manufacturer to settle there. Even though that didn't happen, the town of North Pole not only survived, but thrived, in part because of RV travelers.

Kansas couple travel country in RV, giving a hand to the homeless
Lawrence Journal World
Richard Olson isn't sure where he'd be if he hadn't met that nice older couple at a campground in Minnesota. At the time, he and his family were living in a tent in the woods, sneaking into the showers at the park in Cloquet, MN. That's what he was doing one day in June when he met Barbara Mozingo, who was hosting the grounds for the summer with her husband. The couple let the family stay at their campsite, drove them to appointments and, eventually, helped them get cell phones, jobs and a place to live.
