New GE Capital survey: RV industry experts expect sales increase in 2015
BusinessWire
Optimism remains high in the RV industry, according to survey results from GE Capital’s Commercial Distribution Finance (CDF) business. Forty-one percent of survey respondents expect sales to rise 5 percent to 10 percent next year, and an additional 26 percent expect RV sales to grow 10 percent to 15 percent. This is similar to last year’s sentiment, where 37 percent of respondents thought their sales would grow between 5-10 percent. “The RV industry has reason to feel optimistic once again, with strong shipment and retail registration numbers and a relatively strong economy as we close out the year,” says Tim Hyland, president of CDF’s RV group.

Tumbling gas prices a cash boon for Iowans
The Des Moines Register
Darrel and Leticia Eddy of Cedar Rapids left home last week in a 28-foot Winnebago motorhome for a circuitous, 2,000-mile journey via Texas to San Diego, where they plan to spend the winter. They expect to save hundreds of dollars in fuel bills, thanks to plummeting gas prices. Darrel Eddy says he’ll use the windfall to "go a little further" in his travels. Snowbirds making their return
The Press-Enterprise
A larger than normal flock of snowbirds is appearing at Southern California RV resorts, fueled in part by gas prices that are nearly $1 per gallon cheaper than in 2013. According to a survey done by one SoCal resort, the snowbirds drop more than $1.3 million into the local economy on restaurants and groceries alone. Not to mention an additional $500,000 on golf, pet care, vehicle repairs, and clothes.

An essential reminder of how Matthew McConaughey talks about his Airstream
Curbed
Matthew McConaughey has been rhapsodizing about his trailer for years. Some of his memorable quotes about the Airstream include this: "Its rounded body is a beautiful piece of art and aerodynamically very functional. It's got a great window right above your pillow, so when you wake up in the morning, you're looking right at the ocean or wherever your backyard is that day.” And this: “The thing about Airstreams is you feel a little bad for 'em if you got 'em parked too long and the axles aren't spinning, you know, because they're built for the road."

Tourism 2015 forecast: Robust growth, new challenges
News-press.com
Some travel industry analysts are expecting boom times, with $1 trillion of growth coming to their industry. Clayton Reid, CEO of MMGY Global, says one indication is Expedia’s courting the business of hostels, RV parks, and campgrounds. Laurie Albion, general manager for Red Coconut RV Resort on Fort Myers Beach, FL, likes what she’s heard about Expedia getting involved with RV parks. Online travel aggregators tend to focus on hotels and motels, and RV parks such as hers tend to get left out. Despite vigorous marketing, she often encounters people staying at hotels who tell her, “'I didn't know there was an RV campground on Fort Myers Beach.'"

CNN
Tucked inside the defense authorization bill that the Senate passed Friday was an unrelated public lands package that's set to bring the biggest expansion to the National Park Service in decades. The measure also establishes thousands of acres of new wilderness areas. The bill designates seven sites as official national park units, many of which place a special emphasis on history, such as Manhattan Project work sites in New Mexico, Tennessee, and Washington State.
