Happy Holidays! As the end of 2014 nears, RVDA would like to wish its members, partners and other industry professionals a safe and happy holiday season. As we reflect on the past year, here’s a look back at some of the most popular stories from RVDA's NewsBrief.

Rolling along: RV industry maintains momentum
ABC News via the Associated Press
From Dec. 3: Overall RV shipments — a key measure of consumer demand — are expected to increase by nearly 4 percent to 361,400 units in 2015. RVDA Chairman of the Board John McCluskey said sales are up 50 percent since 2009 at his RV dealership in Florida. Sales surged by more than 20 percent in the past year, he said. He has hired more sales and service staff to keep up with growing customer demand. "It's a lot more fun to be in the RV business these days," he said.

Is the world ready for the aluminum Ford F-150?
AutoWeek
From Oct. 15: Ford is making its case to body shops, insurance companies, and accessory manufacturers: Don't fear the aluminum F-series. The 2015 Ford F-150 represents a huge leap for the conventional pickup truck, and leaps don't occur without risk. When you're dealing with the best-selling and probably most profitable vehicle in North America, the risk is considerable. Ford says it conducted extensive testing of the new aluminum 2015 F-150, including trailer towing and hot weather torture testing.

Automakers agree on uniform towing capacity tests
USA Today
From Feb. 19: Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and Nissan all plan to join Toyota in using a uniform, independent test for the towing claims they make for their full-size pickups. Towing capacity — the weight a vehicle can safely haul on a trailer — is one of the most important performance figures for pickups. "People buy pickups to tow and haul," says Bob Hegbloom, head of Chrysler's Ram trucks. "These vehicles are tools. This brings a standard into place" to ensure all automakers measure their towing capacity the same way.

The MINI meets an Airstream
AutoWeek via MSN Autos
From Feb. 26: Makers of the popular MINI Cooper have paired one of the diminutive cars with a 22-foot long Airstream trailer and given the odd couple a watersports theme. One side of the trailer opens into a sunbathing bed, and its exterior is partially wrapped in neoprene, the synthetic rubber used for wet suits, in homage to surfing. The MINI's seats, dashboard and side paneling are also made of neoprene, and its exterior has a black-with-green-trim paint job, giving it a wetsuit look. Of course, there's a roof rack for surfboards.

Then & Now: Recreational vehicles, 1923 and 2013

An early attempt at a self-contained RV featuring all the amenities of home is pictured in this 1923 photo, apparently built on a Ford Model TT truck chassis.

FBI: Online fraud costs millions
CBSNews
From Nov. 19: RV dealers should be aware that phony Internet ads selling big-ticket items--from cars to recreational vehicles--led to nearly 7,000 complaints to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center and accounted for more than $20 million in losses, the agency says. Victims respond to ads for items with deeply discounted prices and are instructed to wire their money to a fake eBay account. Once the transaction is done, victims are given a fake delivery date. The items never arrive, and since the money was sent by wire, it’s lost.
