3 Angelina County officers apply to be first new sheriff in decade

Change is coming to the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office as Sheriff Greg Sanches is set to retire on Jan. 1 after a decade of service to the county.
Three officers have applied for the soon-to-be vacant position and all have established law enforcement experience.
Those applicants are Mark McLin, the current chief deputy at the sheriff’s office, Bryan Holley, a Hudson ISD Police Officer, and Tom Selman, who’s currently on his fifth term as Constable for Precinct 1 of Angelina County.

Bryan residents help officer after being shot during traffic stop

After a police officer was shot on Thursday trying to conduct a traffic stop, a few Bryan residents aided the wounded officer until they were able to receive the proper medical treatment.
Jason Allen and Adam Richardson were inside Allen’s home watching a football game when gunshots were heard in their neighborhood.
“We had walked out to see what was going on and I saw the guy who ended up being the cop,” Allen said.

Lipscomb County Sheriff dies after battle with cancer

Lipscomb County is mourning the loss of Sheriff John Worthington.
According to the sheriff's office, Worthington died after a battle with cancer.
He was elected in 2020. Worthington spent 27 years in the Army before beginning his law enforcement career in 1990.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is looking for a missing 55-year-old Orange County man, who is blind and in need of his medication.
Scott Holladay was last seen by family at about 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 4, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans, grey athletic shoes and a tan or burnt orange hooded jacket according to the sheriff's office.

DHS announces new portable gunshot detection tool

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) have introduced a new portable Gunshot Detection System that can provide critical information about outdoor shooting incidents nearly instantaneously to first responders.
The system, called SDS Outdoor, was developed in collaboration between the DHS, ST&T and Shooter Detection Systems (SDS) according to a press release.
