The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers are investigating a homicide that occurred Monday night. Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges said in a press release that they are trying to locate a possible witness in the case. Bridges said the person may have unknowingly seen the suspect vehicle.

Three detention officers became makeshift doctors, and heroes, when an inmate went into premature labor early Tuesday morning. According to officials, Detention Sgt. Robin Woodall, and Detention Officers Betty Rivera and April Martin helped deliver the first of a set of twins at the Navarro County Jail, saving not only the babies' lives, but their mother's.

A disabled man in a wheelchair and three others are alive, thanks to two Eastland police officers who ran into a burning home to save them. According to a Facebook post from the Eastland Police Department, Officers Kolton Preston and Kevin Willis were the first to respond to the emergency fire and realized there were still people in the house.

While that remains in the air, a Central Texas sheriff's office is hiring former APD officers, who are retiring because of the contract fallout. Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said while he believes what's happening in Austin is unfortunate, he does however see this as an opportunity to get qualified candidates to work in Williamson County.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar on Monday announced the details of his office's heightened training requirements, noting that the new process had been in the works since the beginning of his term in office — months before a recent deputy-involved shooting involving the death of a 6-year-old.
Billed by Salazar as a "new era of training," the office is increasing the required in-service training hours for its deputies from 24 to 40 hours annually, effectively doubling the state-mandated training requirement of 40 hours every two years for peace officers. The move brings the Sheriff's Office in line with the San Antonio Police Department but far outstrips the requirements of some other large counties in Texas, including Harris and Tarrant counties.
