Comal County sheriff says man's severe head injuries caused by curb, not agents
KSAT-TV
The fiancee of a man severely injured during an encounter with a Comal County Sheriff's drug task force earlier this month said authorities used excessive force while trying to take him into custody in downtown New Braunfels.
Photos obtained by KSAT-TV Defenders of Armando Guzman, 26, show a significant injury to his upper lip as well as substantial swelling to his eyes and head. Guzman remains hospitalized nearly two weeks after the Jan. 8 incident.
Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds, however, disputed allegations of excessive force during an interview with KSAT-TV this week, and the Comal County District Attorney's Office is seeking permission from the Texas Attorney General to withhold all footage and a copy of the incident report.

Artificial intelligence and faster digital evidence redaction
Police Magazine
One of the greatest problems faced by law enforcement agencies that field body-worn cameras is how to release the video to the public. It can be tricky because raw video of law enforcement operations often contains images of people and things that should not be in public view, including underage suspects and victims, victims of sex crimes, undercover officers, license plates, and personal data such as addresses on computer displays. The only answer to this problem is to redact the video.

5 essential training topics for correctional officers
Corrections1
Corrections is also a constantly evolving environment, with new risks being introduced each year. To stay safe, remain up to date and limit liability, both new and veteran correctional officers need to keep training.
In-person, instructor-led classes are a great opportunity to learn about new case law and legal standards affecting officers and inmates as well as to brush up on basics. But in-person training is expensive, so facilities should supplement in-person sessions with online learning to reduce costs and provide a way for correctional officers to train frequently.
