A Travis County deputy's decision to shoot at a man he believed was going to drive his truck into two other deputies was justified, according to the Travis County district attorney's office.
On Nov. 8, 2018, Deputy Luis Garcia shot toward but missed a driver trying to get away from officers in a stolen Ford F-150, authorities said.

Congratulations to Jailer Misty Cottle for being selected as Wise County Jailer of the Month. Ms. Cottle has been working at the Wise County Sheriff's Office for almost three years. She does an outstanding job in any position she is assigned to.

Recognizing the most recent promotions in the Wise County Jail: Tyler Cohen (left, pictured with Sheriff Lane Akin) was promoted to Sergeant. Brayden Hay (center, with Sheriff Akin) and Jeff Tognocchi (right, pictured with Jail Administrator Rick Denney) both were promoted to the rank of Corporal. Congratulations to all three individuals.

Brazos County: Steven White promoted to lieutenant
Congratulations to Sergeant Steven White on his promotion to lieutenant with the Brazos County Sheriff's Office.
Lt. White started his career with the Sheriff's Office in 2004 and has demonstrated his leadership throughout his career by serving as a field training deputy in the patrol division before promoting to criminal investigator. From there, Lt. White’s ability to lead quickly earned him the role of sergeant over the Criminal Investigations Division. In his new role as lieutenant, White will serve as the commander of our patrol division.

Multiple agencies were involved in a chase involving three vehicles Thursday evening.
Authorities say the chase started in Navarro County and ended in Freestone County on Interstate 45 heading into Teague.
One of the vehicles that was caught by Teague Police Department is believed stolen from a dealership in Dallas.
Another vehicle was recovered by Freestone County Sheriff's Office. Officials are still looking for the third vehicle.

A Wise County deputy discovered a plot to transport a Central American teenager to Georgia during a traffic stop last week, officials said.
Around 2 a.m. Friday, a Wise County sheriff's deputy pulled over a 2019 Toyota Camry traveling southbound on U.S. 287, just north of Decatur, for a traffic violation. The driver, 38-year-old Benito Granado of North Carolina, was with a 13-year-old boy, officials said.

An investigation between several agencies led to the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker in Smith County who allegedly used Snapchat to advertise his product.
Logan Ryan Carr, 19, was arrested Feb. 12 after law enforcement observed him allegedly distribute LSD to several people in a parking lot on Highway 155 South, according to the Smith County Sheriff's Office.

An inmate at a Texas jail is being held in quarantine after telling officers he was possibly exposed to the novel coronavirus prior to his arrest. The unnamed inmate was reportedly experiencing flu-like symptoms, prompting officials to put him in isolation.
The inmate reportedly told jail officials that he came into contact with people who were recently quarantined for the virus while he was working as a contractor, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Issues like drag races, social media-driven stunt shows, burnout events, large meet-up crowds and dangerous donuts are among the complaints police and some city council members have been hearing from residents.

It's illegal, sure, but law enforcement has more or less been defanged when it comes to enforcing that ban on pot in the Texas Criminal Code. Since last summer, when its cousin hemp was legalized, officials have had to prove suspected marijuana is actual marijuana. That is, it contains a specific amount of THC – the psychoactive ingredient in pot.

In 2018, the NYPD rolled out its Staten Island pilot program for responding to crashes and drew mixed responses for it. Under this program, police officers in the area only responded to vehicle crashes that involve personal injuries and not property damage. Deeming it successful, the department recently announced plans to expand it to the other four boroughs of New York City. Since the department stopped responding to all crash sites in Staten Island, officers can now opt to focus on priority jobs and tasks. As a result, officers' response times to serious crash sites have improved.

A new national study shows that police officers are at higher risk of suicide than any other profession, and Michigan cops are among those most at risk in the country, according to an organization that tracks police suicides.
Blue H.E.L.P, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit, reported seven suicides by police in Michigan last year.
