Nearly 50 people were arrested in central Texas in connection with prostitution charges. Police used websites like Craigslist and Backpage to lure out potential "Johns" and pimps. The 47 suspects were arrested between Jan. 7 and Feb. 4 as part of the 15th National Johns Suppression Initiative. McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said his office had the sixth-most arrests among police departments in the nation during the initiative.

A yearlong undercover investigation into a suspected narcotics operation in Central Texas resulted in 23 arrests, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Deputies launched "Operation Ice Storm" in October of 2016, using undercover officers to identify methamphetamine dealers in the area rather than street level users, according to a news release. The investigation revealed the dealers were peddling black tar heroin along with methamphetamine. Deputies also discovered that several suspects were affiliated with the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas, according to the release.

Starting Sunday, Austin Police Officers will see an increase in their paychecks.
The Austin City Council voted 10-1 on Thursday, Feb. 15, to restore most of the stipends officers used to receive under the city's contract with the police association.
Back in December, the council rejected a five-year, $82 million renewal of the city's labor contract with the Austin Police Association. At the time, some members said the deal was too costly and lacked transparency.

As a profession, we have a duty and responsibility to learn from the sacrifices of others. Too many officers have lost their lives in the pursuit of justice due to the tactics they employ and, in some cases, the tactics they fail to employ. It is time we say, "Enough!"
