Austin community leaders have dedicated the next several days to honoring officers who have died in the line of duty in 2018.
One of those being remembered is Officer Charles Whites, who was the first Round Rock Police Officer to die on duty. He died April 27, 2018, more than two months after a car struck him while he was directing traffic at a fatal wreck on I-35.

The human femur bone perplexed a Parker County sheriff's deputy as it sat on the tailgate of Scott Fuller's truck.
According to the deputy's incident report, Fuller had gone fishing March 22 behind his Parker County home along the Brazos River when he made the discovery in the water. He called police the next day, after his mother-in-law suggested the bone appeared to come from a human, the report said.

Austin police recently released dramatic body camera footage of officers saving three women and a dog from rushing floodwaters after recent storms.
The rescue effort began amid heavy rainfall on May 3 when authorities received reports of a woman screaming for help in the 6700 block of Old Bee Caves Road. Officer Matthew Valli, Benjamin Cochran and Kevin Perrydore responded to the scene, where they found a blue Nissan Sentra trapped on a low bridge as flood waters rushed around it.
