Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Raymond Scholwinski died Wednesday after a weeks-long battle with COVID-19, becoming one of the first known coronavirus-related fatalities among Houston-area law enforcement agencies.
Scholwinski, 70, was among thousands of first responders nationwide in mid-March to be sickened by the virus. His symptoms had worsened when he was hospitalized March 29. He was put on a ventilator and fought for his life in the Memorial Hermann ICU, according to earlier reports in the Houston Chronicle.

A 22-year-old man is in custody in Madison County after police say he shot and killed a 24-year-old man at an Arlington apartment complex Monday morning.
Arlington police say Kendell Jerrell Morris drove from Houston early Monday to assault someone who lived in the same apartment complex as the victim, Robert Cooley III.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office has identified the motorcyclist who was found shot and killed in the Chapel Hill area Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff's office said the rider, Brandon Edwards, 33, of Ben Wheeler, was found shot and deceased by deputies in the the 16400 block of Farm-to-Market Road 850 in Chapel Hill.

A 37-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after leading several law enforcement agencies on a chase through Atascosa County, Sheriff David Soward said.
Soward said that Poteet police tried to stop the suspect, Michael Rodriguez, but he refused to stop and fled towards Pleasanton on FM 476.
