New squad aims to crackdown on Harris County's most dangerous fugitives

As Harris County continues to grapple with violent crime, local law enforcement agencies are creating a new, 16-member squad tasked with hunting down dangerous fugitives, authorities have announced. The task force will be staffed with deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s eight constables, Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia said, in a news conference shortly before commissioners voted to approve the measure.

El Paso County Sheriff's Foundation received balls for basketball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, baseball and football.
The donation came from a drive organized by Rhino Industrial Supply, a commercial and industrial equipment supplier in El Paso.

Bomb threat made against Central Texas school

A student at Clifton High School will be disciplined as allowed by the Clifton Independent School District code of conduct after a handwritten note with a bomb threat was turned in to school administrators by a staff member.
Clifton ISD Superintendent Andy Ball said the student responsible for writing the note was quickly located.

Men use electronic device to swipe 80 gallons of diesel fuel at Dallas 7-Eleven, police say

Four people have been arrested for allegedly stealing 80 gallons of diesel fuel from a 7-Eleven gas station in Northeast Dallas, police said.
The alleged theft happened at the 7-Eleven at 10400 Garland Road, near Gus Thomasson Road.
Pedro Ruiz, Alfredo Hechavarria, Lazaro Echemendia Miranda and Betancourt Barco face charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, theft of a petroleum product and unlawful use of a criminal instrument, according to a police news release.

A recent review of bail records found that most bondsmen complied with new regulations requiring defendants charged with violent felonies to pay 10% or more of their surety bond to get out of jail, officials said.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reviewed records from April 23 — when the mandated fee minimum kicked in — to the end of the month and found that 94 defendants whose charges qualified under the rule posted bond to secure their freedom, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said

The Giles W. Dalby Correctional Facility in Post will convert back into a county jail. That is how it started in 1999.
In less than 10 years, it transitioned into holding only federal prisoners, including undocumented immigrants.
In February, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) decided to not renew the contract with Management and Training Corporations (MTC), which manages the facility in Post.
