The Travis County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspicious death at a homeless camp in northeast Travis County.
Shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a call about a deceased person at an abandoned home on a property near the 1700 block of East Parmer Lane. The home is a known homeless camp, the sheriff's office said.

An off-duty Lubbock police officer is being lauded after he jumped into action to save an elderly neighbor from a house fire earlier this month.
Officer J.R. Wood was returning home from working security at his church when he noticed his neighbor's house had smoke and flames pouring out of the windows and vents on May 10, according to a news release.

A shooting at a naval air station that wounded a sailor and left the gunman dead early Thursday was being investigated as "terrorism-related," the FBI said, but divulged few details as to why.
The suspect was identified as Adam Alsahli of Corpus Christi, according to three officials familiar with the investigation who were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The mother of a 6-year-old girl died in a crash along Texas Highway 249 late Monday night, and the child's father — who was driving — was charged with felony murder.
The girl's father, identified as Eric Bahr, was driving southbound on the feeder road near Lakewood Crossing around 11:45 p.m. when he lost control and careened into a light pole, according to Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Simon Cheng. They were the only three people involved in the crash, Cheng said. A good Samaritan ran from a nearby business to help get the girl out of the car, who had become trapped in her car seat.
