The death of a person found after firefighters extinguished a blaze is the result of a homicide, according to an autopsy. Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford said the body was found Saturday night. Firefighters responded to a call of a small woods fire on County Road 4600, just north of Fred. After putting the fire out, they discovered the body wrapped inside some type of enclosed material.

As Travis County Captain Juan Sandoval explained, the job of a deputy can take a toll on the body. Not all job-related issues present outward symptoms. There are internal struggles that are climbing higher on the priority list for law enforcement agencies to address. Sandoval says as part of a push for whole body health, the sheriff's office created mental health classes for staff members and brought on a department psychologist.

Two toddlers were found dead in a hot car in a rural North Texas neighborhood. A Parker County Sheriff's Office statement says the 2-year-old girl and 16-month-old boy were found by their mother in a subdivision near Lake Weatherford. The statement says temperatures at the time were about 96 degrees.

Research shows that increasing rates of marijuana use have resulted in an increased rate of car crash fatalities. It is a problem that many proponents for legal adult use of recreational marijuana wish to pretend does not exist. In fact, Vermont Gov. Phil Scott just vetoed his state's marijuana legalization bill with concerns about public safety on his mind. Scott is sending the bill back to the state legislature, asking for harsher penalties for those who drive under the influence.

Authorities said Wednesday two bounty hunters and the fugitive from Minnesota they were tracking shot each other dead in a hail of bullets that sent customers and employees fleeing for cover at a Texas car dealership. The two men had pursued Ramon Michael Hutchinson, 49, to a Nissan dealership in Greenville, about 50 miles northeast of Dallas, Tuesday. Stew Peters, a bail investigator with the private Minnesota-based company U.S. Fugitive Recovery and Extradition, said Hutchinson had been sought since March when he failed to appear for a court hearing in Hennepin County, Minnesota, which includes Minneapolis.

Fatal shootings of civilians by police officers are less common in states with stricter gun laws than they are in states that take a more relaxed approach to regulating the sale, storage and use of firearms, new research says. A study published this month in the American Journal of Public Health has found that fatal police shootings were about half as common in states whose gun laws place them in the top 25 percent of stringency than they were in states where such restrictions ranked in the bottom 25 percent.
