Webb County Sheriff's Office

Joined by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar on July 8 paid tribute to the five Dallas officers killed in 2016 by holding a remembrance ceremony.
The ceremony was part of Texas Law Enforcement Fallen Officer Day, which was enacted by the Texas Legislature in 2017, wherein they proclaimed July 7 each year as a day of remembrance in honor of all Texas officers killed in the line of duty.

A Houston-area sheriff's deputy has died after suffering a medical emergency while responding to a stabbing call.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says 39-year-old Omar Diaz was assisting at the scene of a stabbing early Saturday when he became ill.
He was taken to a hospital where he died shortly after arriving.

Authorities say a Texas man who disappeared several months ago was apparently eaten by his own dogs.
CBS DFW reports the victim, identified as Freddie Mack, 57, was reported missing in April by family members who were unable to check on him because of 18 aggressive dogs on his property in Venus, Texas, south of Dallas.

A Texas sheriff says a reality-based detective show played a role in the recent arrest of an 84-year-old woman in the 1984 shooting death of her husband.
Leon County Sheriff Kevin Ellis said Wednesday that the arrest last week of Norma Allbritton was aided by the program "Cold Justice," which contributed its own investigator, a retired district attorney and other expertise.

A woman who was charged with tampering with evidence in February in connection with the death of her boyfriend has now been charged with murder, according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office.
Stephanie Marie Ray was first arrested on Feb. 19, about seven months after her boyfriend, Johnny Cardenas, was found dead on the side of the road in the 9800 block of Decker Lane on July 11, 2018.

A Castle Hills police officer nearly killed by a suspected drunken driver who plowed into a single-car crash scene filled with people says a decision he made within a microsecond saved his life.
Officer Garrett Earlywine had just arrived to the busy scene of a crash along Loop 410 and Honeysuckle Lane on June 9. He positioned his vehicle several yards back away from the scene to protect some of the vehicles and people ahead.

On Tuesday, the office of Texas governor Greg Abbott announced $15 million in federal grants will be used to support state law enforcement along the border.
The money stems from $30 million approved by the U.S Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to equip law enforcement with "resources they need to confront the complex and dynamic challenges that exist along the Texas border."
