Illegal alien, convicted cartel kidnapper charged in double execution

A previously convicted cartel kidnapper and illegal alien has been charged in connection with a double execution in Texas tied to a cartel-affiliated, human-smuggling organization. Martin Casimiro Margarito, a 29-year old criminal alien from Mexico in federal prison, has been identified by the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office as one of the men responsible for an October 2014 kidnapping and double execution in the border city of Pharr.
Fugitive killer arrested in India returned to South Texas

A man who was able to escape a 2007 murder conviction in a scheme that sent a former South Texas prosecutor and judge to prison was returned to Texas on Tuesday to begin serving his prison sentence after his capture in India.

Arrests near Lufkin restaurant part of federal drug trafficking sting

U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced Wednesday that five people were arrested following a "lengthy investigation" into drug trafficking. Some of those individuals were taken into custody near Lufkin's Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant Tuesday afternoon.
Azle police employ 'predictive' crime tool

The Azle Police Department says it will begin utilizing a powerful crime mapping tool to help "predict" where and when a crime will likely take place. The tool, powered by BAIR Analytics, will allow police and citizens to "visualize where and when crime is occurring." The analytic tool will allow the city to more accurately focus its resources, the city says.

Dashcam video captures Austin officer saving woman's life during traffic stop

An Austin police officer was credited with recently saving the life of his colleague's daughter during a traffic stop, according to a report. Officer Dustin Clinkscales of the Austin Police Department originally pulled over the woman on July 5 because he thought she was driving while talking on her cellphone, KXAN-TV reported.
But once he walked up to the car, he realized that she was choking and using the phone to try and call for help.
Mansfield girl donates safety vests for police dogs

Mansfield's four-legged officers now have their own bullet- and stab-proof vests, thanks to a 10-year-old Mansfield girl. Camryn Samuel donated vests to the police department's two K-9 officers. Since her 10th birthday in August, Camryn has donated six vests, which cost from $700-$800, to several police departments. It started when she decided to make the donations instead of asking for birthday gifts.
Texas police chief pranks 12-year-old girl by pulling her over in Hot Wheels car

In a town of 900 people, Thrall, Police Chief Whitney Whitworth likes to keep things interesting. So while driving around in his police car, he came across the youngest driver he has ever encountered on the road — a 12-year-old girl riding around in her Ford F150 Hot Wheels truck.
"I thought it would be funny to pull them over," Whitworth tells People. "I also just really love to engage with everyone in our community."
