ECSO honors local residents with Life-Saving Awards

The Ector County Sheriff's Office recently held its award ceremony and honored a group of residents for their selfless actions.
Eight citizens earned the Life-Saving Award for saving another's life. Five of the individuals helped save the life of Tamika Pride back in February of 2021, while three others helped save the life of Ronnie Benoit in October of 2020.

Long-time sheriff's deputy receives Peacemaker of the Year award

A long-time deputy with the Nueces County Sheriff's office received a special honor.
During a commissioner's court meeting, NUCO sheriff's deputy David Garcia was presented with the Peacemaker of the Year award.
Every year, the Sheriff's Office Association of Texas provides this state recognition to a law enforcement officer.

Brooks County Jail in need of jailers, raising pay to attract applicants

The Brooks County Sheriff's Department is dealing with a shortage of jailers at their county jail after a group of jailers recently quit to go work at a migrant processing facility in Hebbronville, Texas.
Officials said the pay was much higher, and because of that the Brooks County Jail is looking for solutions.

Comal County deputy amputee throws out first pitch at Texas Rangers game

On Aug. 14, the Texas Rangers honored those that serve the community with First Responders Appreciation Day. Before the game, a Comal County deputy that lost his arm in a shooting in 2020 started the night off by throwing the ceremonial first pitch.
Comal County Sheriff's Deputy Eddy Luna took the mound just before the Rangers' 5-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Hays County Jail inmate's death under investigation, sheriff says

Texas law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a man in custody at the Hays County Jail on Wednesday.
A medical emergency was called for 41-year-old inmate James Warren Knight just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release. Jail medical staff responded to the call and then took him to a nearby hospital.
