Investigators with the Polk County Sheriff's Office are looking into a possible murder that also involved a kidnapping that occurred on Aug. 18. After PCSO deputies were dispatched out to Wiggins Subdivision No. 1 on a welfare check, they found the body of a 76-year-old man in a travel trailer. Chief Deputy Byron Lyons said that case is being investigated as a homicide.

Investigators with the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office have identified a man found dead early Tuesday morning in rural Mission. Sheriff's investigators identified the man as 19-year-old Cesar Eduardo Jaramillo through fingerprint identification, according to a news release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office. Jaramillo's next of kin has been notified, according to the news release.

Three men pleaded guilty in the Eastern District of Texas to illegally trafficking alligator snapping turtles. Travis Joseph Leger, 40, and Rickey Paul Simon, 57, both of Sulphur, Louisiana, and Jason Gene Leckelt, 36, of Wilburton, Oklahoma, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the Lacey Act by illegally trafficking alligator snapping turtles. Simon and Leckelt pleaded guilty in court Aug. 17 and Leger entered his guilty plea on Monday.
Alligator snapping turtles are designated as threatened with statewide extinction under Texas State Law, which strictly prohibits anyone from taking, capturing, transporting or selling these turtles, or attempting to do so. The turtles also are protected under Louisiana State Law, which makes it illegal to sell or barter for the turtles.

Kemah police say this was one of the strangest calls for help they've ever received and it set off a wild goat chase. A mother and baby goat got out over the weekend. Shelia Thorne's daughter's 4-H goats were gone and she believes there was an accomplice. Kemah Patrol officers spotted the goats about a quarter mile away. As they found out, goats can resist being captured, too.

A total of 17 Shih Tzu puppies were rescued by the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office Friday from a puppy mill in Ben Bolt, Texas, with the help of a rescue group called Jim Wells County Pets of Life. The sheriff said the same puppy mill was being investigated in the summer of 2015, but finally after many complaints, the puppies were seized.
