The Bell County Sheriff's Department is cracking down on human sex trafficking after a two-day prostitution sting landed 20 men in jail. Thirteen were active duty soldiers who ranked from Private E-2, Master Sergeant, Major and Chief Warrant Officer 3. Bell County Police said the other seven men were business men from the central Texas area.
The two-day operation happened at motels in Killeen and Salado. Police said once an ad was placed online, it took 20 minutes for the men to start responding.

When Hurricane Harvey made landfall on Aug. 25, it was the strongest hurricane to hit the U.S. in 13 years. With long hold times, many of the trapped residents turned to social media for help. It got to the point where the Houston Police Department issued a statement urging people to please not contact its social media accounts for rescue requests.
There was one other way to request help: by texting 911. However, according to Joe Laud, the administration manager at the Houston Emergency center, text-to-911 "didn't see too much activity" over the past few days. Compared to the tens of thousands of calls, the center received just a handful of texts.

A former school official who worked in districts across Central Texas has been arrested in Arizona, where he stands accused him of soliciting young girls for sex, the Phoenix-area Pinal County sheriff's office said. Karl Waggoner was arrested Tuesday near Four Peaks Elementary School in Arizona, where he had just begun his job as principal this summer, the sheriff's office said. Waggoner is charged with luring a minor for sex, Arizona records show.

A new Texas law now in effect that bans texting while driving is full of loopholes, Channel 2 Investigates has learned. The law took effect Sept. 1, during the height of Harvey. Jeff Seely, a personal injury attorney in Houston who generally supports the new law, said that the legislation, a product of compromise, offers drivers a range of possible defenses and mandates that officers must not only witness offenders using their phones, but identify that the activity is specifically texting.
