The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office applied for a grant to get ballistic shields for their deputies.
If the grant is accepted, it will be more than $96,000.
According to the department it wants to purchase more than 45 riffle resistant ballistic shields, which is enough for one in every vehicle in case of an emergency. The decision to apply for the grant comes after the mass shooting in Uvalde.

Deputies pulling double duty protecting community, assisting at border, sheriff says

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber says his deputies work double assisting federal and state authorities with migrants who enter the country illegally, as well as keeping his South Texas community safe.
“My deputies are working to stop vehicles with smuggling of aliens, they’re picking up aliens, immigrants. It’s a double job. It’s a lot of stress on my deputies,” Schmerber told Border Report.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office to open District 2 facility in Spring

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office will hold a grand opening Oct. 4 for its new District 2 facility at 25046 Abbey Lane in Spring, according to a news release. The new office will house patrol and detective personnel, according to the release. The project also includes a vehicle maintenance facility for fleet vehicles to enable them to return to service more quickly.

East Texas business donates golf cart to Harrison County Sheriff's Office

A local business donated a golf cart to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement shared a post on social media on Aug. 31 and said Jack Rabbit Offroad gave the cart to them. The company sells and repairs golf carts, ATVs and UTVs. Authorities said they will use the cart at events and festivals for security.
