In a large field in southeast Texas, nearly $6 million of marijuana plants were quietly growing — until Tuesday, that is. A task force of over 30 officers from multiple southeast Texas counties busted a huge marijuana crop off of County Road 336 by Palestine, Texas on Tuesday.
The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said that 5,200 marijuana plants in total were discovered. The plants were all sizes, according to Sheriff Gregg Taylor from the Anderson County Sheriff's Department.

A 14-year-old freshman intended to shoot her stepbrother and herself when she brought a handgun to a Texas high school last week, police say. The Sept. 8 incident resulted in the death of the teenager and left another student injured at Alpine High School in west Texas. The unidentified teenager had not been bullied, and it was not a factor in the incident, the Alpine Police Department said in a statement Tuesday. Police interviewed nearly all of the 290 students at the school.

A drug so powerful that it's used to sedate elephants is finding a new, illicit use laced into heroin, potentially contributing to hundreds of overdoses in the last several weeks. The drug, called Carfentanil, is a synthetic opioid so strong that just a few granules the size of grains of table salt can be lethal. Since mid-August, roughly 300 people in at least four states have overdosed on heroin linked to Carfentanil and the less powerful compound fentanyl.
