San Patricio County Sheriff Leroy Moody — the third longest running sheriff in Texas — has been at Christus Spohn Shoreline since having a heart attack, but is reportedly resting peaceably and is improving. Moody does, however, remain in the intensive care unit. His family says they appreciate all the prayers and support during this time.

Drone law limits private use, has exception for law enforcement

Texas, along with six other states, recently passed a drone law that targets inappropriate use of the technology. While the new law restricts drone use by citizens and public entities, it does include an exception for law enforcement use of drones.
Deaf horse enlisted for police duties in Texas

A deaf horse named Smash has been enlisted to serve with the Houston Police Department's mounted patrol. Smash became the first horse to have a formal graduation ceremony, after completing his training with flying colors.

Man charged with 1st-degree murder in shooting of Iowa officer

In Iowa, Officer Jamie Buenting of the Rockwell City Police Department was killed in the line of duty during a standoff. Corey Trott, 32, has been charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Buenting, 37.
