Hays County Sheriff's Office applies for bullet-resistant shield grant

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office said it applied for a state grant to get more bullet-resistant shields for the county.
It’s part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s Bullet-Resistant Shield Grant Program. Last month, the governor announced the Governor’s Public Safety Office (PSO) was accepting applications from law enforcement agencies for Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) travel assistance and the Bullet-Resistant Shield Grant Program for fiscal year 2023.

East Texas Sheriff: Look out for new phishing scam

Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said he has been sent two phishing scam texts with in the last 24 hours and is warning others. Authorities say that the people behind these texts send them to unsuspecting people.
“Once these people get your banking information and clean out your account, there is little or no chance of getting your money back,” Wallace said.

Austin PD makes policy, training changes after 2020 protests

The Austin Police Department has released its After Action Report (AAR) following incidents surrounding the 2020 protests.
“I feel confident in releasing this report and its inclusion of implementation steps for each focus area,” Chief Joseph Chacon said in a press release. “We have accomplished much in the past two years and fully recognize we have much more to achieve.”

Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar announced the appointment of Victoria I. Luna as Public Information Officer.
Luna, a native Laredoan, graduated from St. Augustine High School, and in December, she will be receiving her bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in psychology.

Woman who was 8 months pregnant is shot and killed leaving gas station, Texas cops say

Jennifer Hernandez was eight months pregnant when she was fatally shot after leaving a Texas gas station, according to local authorities. Her unborn baby was also killed. She and her boyfriend had left a Shell gas station in north Houston and made it to a nearby intersection before another car “sped up beside them and fired multiple gunshots into their vehicle,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on Twitter.

Authorities identify 2 men accused of plotting mass shooting at homecoming game

The Tarrant County sheriff’s office released the names of the two men accused of plotting a shooting at the Everman High School homecoming football game.
The sheriff’s office said Brandon Gipson and Isaac Cooper, both 18 years old, were arrested and face multiple charges, including unlawful carrying of a weapon in a prohibited place and terroristic threats, according to the sheriff’s office.

Stray bullet strikes home, trio arrested

Three men were arrested for firing shots after a stray bullet struck a nearby home in the Laredo Ranchettes area, according to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a shots fired call at about 7:55 p.m. Sept. 18 on Pinzon Road, off of Texas 359. First deputies on the scene heard firearm blasts coming from Francisco Guerra Jr. Road.
