The Hill County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the largest marijuana growth operation ever recorded in the county, according to Hill County Sheriff Rodney Watson. The department recently received a tip regarding a possible large-scale marijuana grow operation a few miles east of Malone near Farm Road 744. Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner contacted HCSO after his department received information from a hunter who came upon the site, which was located on Corps property.

Travis County deputies on Monday arrested a man after he allegedly offered an acquaintance $25,000 to kill his ex-girlfriend and let him watch. Keith Cote now faces a charge of criminal solicitation to commit capital murder. He remains in the Travis County Jail on a $1 million bond. According to the Travis County Sheriff's Office, Cote offered an acquaintance of his $10,000 to kill his ex-girlfriend and an extra $15,000 if he could watch the acquaintance do it.

A press release from the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office gave news details on a fatal shooting incident on County Road 101 that resulted in a 58-year-old man getting arrested on murder and firearms charges on Oct. 20. The victim was identified as Juan Eduardo Santana Callejas, 33, of Lufkin, according to an inquest form obtained from Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Sheila Ponder.

The retirees who contributed to the Dallas Police Department's staffing shortage may soon help plug the hole they left behind.
The department is looking to hire as many as 40 retirees as temporary civilian workers to fill vacancies in investigations, administration and field support.
The hiring program, which is expected to cost $1.8 million, would be beneficial to both retirees and the department, Deputy Chief Scott Walton told the City Council's public safety and criminal justice committee recently.

Following the death of an Athens woman in an accident in the U.S. 175 construction zone here, a Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson said that the leading causes of fatalities in work areas is speeding and crossing lanes. U.S. 175 is being widened to four lanes. Construction having started in 2015, it is expected to continue into 2019. But some drivers exceed the limits and pass in no-passing zones. Others may be confused at times about traffic patterns.

Coworkers are stepping up to help two Hamilton County sheriff's deputies whose 6-year-old son is fighting a rare form of cancer. Sheriff's Lt. Brian Fulbright supervises the department's patrol division and his wife, sheriff's Lt. Beronica Fulbright, is a jail supervisor.
Two weeks into kindergarten last month, their 6-year-old son, Brisen, developed a painful knot on the inside of his lower arm.
After tests and surgery, doctors confirmed Brisen had a synovial sarcoma, one of the rarest forms of soft tissue cancer.
