3 North Texas cities work out arrangement in an effort to stop spread of crime

Police in three North Texas cities have worked out a unique arrangement to allow officers to spread across city boundaries, to try to stop crime from spreading.
Police from White Settlement and Lake Worth have started patrolling in defined areas along their shared borders with Fort Worth. Officers will have the authority to make traffic stops and arrests, even if they are not within the boundaries of the city where they work.

Dalby Correctional Facility processing new inmates from across Texas

The Dalby Correctional Facility in Post is processing its first busload of inmates since its contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons expired earlier this year. It’s now a county jail, with a special classification to house inmates from jails around the state that have no room.
After finding out its federal contract was over, county leaders have tried to keep the facility open. County Judge Lee Norman says staff has been working to bring the facility up to state jail standards.

Chambers County Sheriff's deputies arrest Vidor carjacking suspect following chase

Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that this evening at approximately 5:00 p.m., Chambers County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Interstate 10 and Jenkins Road in reference to a carjacking that had just occurred in Vidor, Texas. Deputies were advised that a male and female were carjacked at gunpoint outside of their residence on North Lakeside Street in Vidor.

Body of missing person found at Lake Somerville

The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office says they recovered the body of a missing person from Lake Somerville on the morning of Oct. 24.
The search started the day prior after the sheriff’s office was notified that a a person swam out into the water at Birch Creek Park to retrieve a jet ski after it became unanchored. The person did not return from the water and that’s when 911 was called.

Texas deputies save 2 migrants from trunk of burning vehicle after smuggler flees

Sheriff’s deputies in Texas have saved the lives of two migrants who were trapped in the trunk of a burning vehicle, Fox News has learned.
The dramatic rescue happened east of Del Rio following a pursuit that ended in a crash, according to Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe. Coe told Fox News that one of his deputies initiated a stop for speeding before the driver of the vehicle — a male U.S. citizen — tore off.

Man gets death for killing Texas agency's 1st Sikh deputy

A man was sentenced to death for the fatal 2019 shooting of a law enforcement officer who was the first Sikh deputy in his Texas agency.
A Harris County jury deliberated for about 35 minutes before returning the death sentence for Robert Solis after convicting him of capital murder on Oct. 17 in Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal’s killing.

Texas man sentenced to 8 years in prison for selling gun to Dallas synagogue hostage-taker

A convicted felon was sentenced to eight years in prison this week for selling a pistol to a British man who took four people hostage at a Dallas-area synagogue earlier this year, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas announced.
Henry “Michael” Dwight Williams, 33, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm in June.

Victoria County shifts Lone Star funds to cover sheriff's office expenses

Victoria County commissioners voted on Monday to shift some grant funding from Operation Lone Star to the sheriff’s office to cover a variety of personnel costs.
“We’ve gotten state and federal grants at least 12 years,” said Precinct 4 Commissioner Clint Ives, who serves as the Commissioners Court liaison to the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office.

Customs and Border Protection became the second federal agency to commit to ensuring at least 30% of its annual recruit class by 2030 is female, calling its pledge an “ambitious but worthwhile goal.”
