A rookie Waller County deputy had been on patrol as a single duty unit for just three nights when she fatally crashed in floodwaters Wednesday night, according to the Waller County Sheriff's Office
The deputy, identified as 23-year-old Loren Vasquez, was responding to a high priority water rescue call when her vehicle overturned into a ditch, authorities said.

A man accused of shooting a Fayette County deputy Thursday and barricading himself at an apartment in La Grange was taken into custody Thursday night after a standoff, La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said.
The deputy, who has not been identified, was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin, where he is in critical condition, Gilbreath said at a media briefing Thursday. The deputy was shot in the head, said Fayette County Judge Ed Janecka.

A 32-year-old man pulled up to the Parker County Sheriff's Office on Friday afternoon and told deputies he wanted to turn himself in for pedophilia, deputies say.
Aaron Clay Kelly of Weatherford faces a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child and was booked into the Parker County Jail after deputies say he admitted to sexually assaulting a sleeping 9-year-old girl and making a video recording of it on his cellphone.
Deputies say Kelly told them in an interview that he couldn't remember when the assault had taken place, but that he believed it happened within the past year.

A memorial boulder bearing the name of a fallen Texas Tech police officer will be unveiled on Saturday, Nov. 2, on the university’s campus.
Officer Floyd East Jr. was fatally shot while on duty in October of 2017.
The boulder was donated by Boulder Design of Lubbock and the Gunslingers Motorcycle Club of law enforcement officers.
