Investigators say the body of a Texas State University student has been found under a shuttle bus at an off-campus site where a party was held earlier. The Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office on Monday identified the victim as 20-year-old Jordin Taylor of Burleson. Her body was discovered Saturday beneath the bus at Cool River Ranch, a music and tubing site near Martindale. According to the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office, Taylor was somehow hit by the shuttle bus and dragged 500 feet.

Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman is asking the state jail commission to let nearly 200 inmates sleep on plastic cots on the floor of the already overcrowded county jail system, a request challenged by more than a dozen Houston-area lawmakers. The lawmakers note that county officials have not fully followed the advice of their own criminal justice consultants, who since 2009 have advocated increased use of low-cost personal recognizance bonds as well as jail diversion programs for low-level drug offenders and the mentally ill to reduce jail population.

A South Texas sheriff's department is investigating bullying allegations that a 15-year-old girl's family claims occurred at school and online and eventually led to her suicide last week.
Natalie Natividad, a 15-year-old from Hebbronville, a valley town of about 5,000 people located about 200 miles south of San Antonio, committed suicide last Friday after "continued" bullying, including messages from peers that she was "ugly" and "should kill herself," her family said on a GoFundMe page set up for funeral expenses and a media interview.

Sen. John Whitmire will file a bill requiring schools to teach ninth-graders the duties and responsibilities of police officers and the proper way to interact with them. If it is passed as proposed, the class could be taught as early as the 2018-2019 school year. What happened to Sandra Bland prompted Whitmire to draft this legislation. Bland died in a Waller County Jail after she was pulled over by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper for failing to signal a lane change.

I hear over and over how this is the worst time to be a police officer. This comes from the public as well as soon-to-be-retired officers. Officers being physically targeted — two officers were just ambushed and killed earlier today in Iowa — and are constantly the focus of negative media attention. At face value, it would seem to be a poor time to be in law enforcement. I disagree with this theory wholeheartedly. I would even push to say this is the best time to shine as a police officer.
