Taylor County Sheriff's Office present awards for Mesquite Heat Fire responders

The Taylor County Sheriff's Office awarded several deputies today for their actions during the Mesquite Heat Fire.
The sheriff's office posted about the awards on their Facebook page.
In the post, they said "Today, Sheriff Ricky Bishop presented Life Saving awards to Lt. Jay Jones, Detective Melissa Parker, Deputy Christopher Gladden, Deputy Anthony Casey, and Deputy Kevin Waddle for their life-saving actions during the Mesquite Heat Fire."

2 inmates briefly escape when prisoner transport bus broke down in Polk County

Two inmates briefly escaped on the afternoon of Oct. 28 after the prisoner transport bus they were riding in broke down in Polk County, Texas.
The incident all started at about 1:20 p.m. Two contract prisoner buses were transporting inmates from Houston to a correctional facility in La Salle, Louisiana when one bus became disabled on State Highway 190 East near FM 1276.

Brazos County Jail's inmate population on the decline

Brazos County Sheriff’s Office reported 646 inmates in the Brazos County jail as part of its weekly update to the Brazos County Commissioners Court.
The jail can hold over 1,000 inmates. Brazos County Sheriff Wayne Dicky said over the past year the inmate population peaked at high as 700, but a seasonal decline has recently started. The decline in fall is normal, but the reason behind it is unclear, Dicky said. The trend is expected to continue through the rest of the year.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office searching for home invasion suspects

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is searching for two suspects involved in an armed home invasion.
Deputies responded to a home in 10700 block of Joann Street in Willis on Oct. 24 around 1 a.m. The victims said two men entered the house with handguns, held the homeowners at gunpoint and stole multiple items from the house.

Manhunt underway in Montgomery County following SWAT standoff, sheriff office says

One man was arrested, while another remains on the run following a SWAT standoff in Magnolia Sunday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
This happened at 9:30 p.m. on Highway 149 and Jackson Road.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, it all started as an aggravated kidnapping call. Deputies were responding to the scene when the two men led them on a chase that lasted for about 20 minutes.

Midland boys become Sheriff's Deputies for a day

The Midland County Sheriff's Department got their ranks bolstered for a day with two new deputies Maverick and Mason Stokes.
The unusual thing about these people are... they're six and three years old respectively.
At the Horseshoe today, the boys got the chance to become honorary deputies due to the 'Sheriff For a Day' opportunity their family purchased from a charity auction hosted by the American Cancer Society last year.

School of Nursing provides Narcan to Bexar County Sheriff's Office

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar stopped by the UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing on Oct. 27 to receive 96 doses of Narcan, a nasal spray that can rescue individuals who have experienced accidental opioid poisoning. The School of Nursing provides training to first responders on the use of Narcan and has distributed more than 600,000 doses throughout Texas since 2018.

Officers save 4-year-old from kidnapping during traffic stop in Winters

Officers are credited with saving a 4-year-old child from a kidnapping during a traffic stop in Winters in the early morning of Oct. 27.
A report from the Winters Police Department states a vehicle was pulled over for speeding on SH 153 around 1:00 a.m., and when officers approached the vehicle, they saw the 4-year-old and an adult male inside.
