Men posing as cops kick down door and open fire on family in Texas home, sheriff says

Men in body armor claiming to be police kicked down a door and opened fire on a Texas family who fired back, authorities said. One suspect died in the firefight. Two men claiming to be the Houston police department kicked in the door of a home just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, the Harris County Sheriff Office said in a news conference recorded by KHOU. A woman and her two adult sons were inside the home at the time, deputies said.

Texas' first deaf police officer speaks at field trip for deaf and hard-of-hearing students

Students from the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, which is run through Crowley ISD, recently took a field trip to the Burleson Police Department.
"I want to learn more about how cops, you know, work with deaf people," 15-year-old Ava Tinsley said through an American Sign Language interpreter.
Students got to climb on a police motorcycle, go through a SWAT vehicle, learn about drones, and see a drug-sniffing dog in action.

Randall County Sheriff's Office investigating shots fired at Affiliated Foods

The Randall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that happened early this morning.
Around 8:09 a.m., Randall County deputies were called to the east parking lot of Affiliated Foods on South Washington on a report of shots fired.
The suspect was caught and is now in custody.
The investigation is ongoing.

Man found shot in leg inside pickup truck in Wilson County

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was shot by a rifle early Nov. 8.
Deputies responded to a call just after 3 a.m.at the intersection of FM 3432 and County Road 324 and found a man inside a pickup truck with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Authorities say someone had driven the man to the location and then called for help. The man was taken by EMS to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he is being treated for his injury.

More people continue to overdose on the lethal drug fentanyl in Hays County. It’s left families like Frances Ramirez’s without a loved one.
“We’re hurting. We miss him. We want to see him one more time,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez lost her grandson, Noah. He was one of four Hays CISD students who died from a fentanyl-related overdose this year.

Invoking "terrorism," among other arguments, civil attorneys with Hidalgo County are asking the Texas Attorney General whether they can shield from taxpayers a $100,000 jail expansion study and the appraisal reports for the Willacy County jail that the county entered into a $50-plus million, 50-year lease.
The Monitor filed the Texas Public Information Act requests to better understand Hidalgo County's costly and decades-long overcrowding problem, the recommendations to remedy it and to find out the condition of the Willacy County jail.

William McKinney attempted to rob a Subway fast-food restaurant and was apprehended by officers. He had consumed alcohol, various psychiatric medications and cocaine.
Following his arrest, McKinney was placed in a holding cell at the police department. At some point between 0345 and 0430, officers noticed McKinney had covered his cell camera with wet toilet paper, obstructing the officers’ view of his cell.
