El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's help locating a convicted sex offender who absconded from the El Paso Multi-Use Facility at 1700 Horizon Blvd.
Juan Felipe Vasquez was given permission to go to the store Tuesday but never returned to the facility and his whereabouts are unknown.

A joint initiative of sheriff's offices across North Texas was responsible for a major drug bust in Smith County this week.
While conducting a highway criminal interdiction operation, members of the North Texas Criminal Interdiction Unit made a traffic stop on a recreational vehicle on Interstate 20 at Texas Highway 14 in Smith County around 3 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the NTXCIU.

An Abilene hero will be honored 131 years after he was killed in the line of duty.
Walter Collins was a Taylor County deputy in 1884, one of the first in the county's history.
Collins was shot and killed on January 8, 1884, in what's known as the "Pine Street Shootout."

Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O’Connor is worried that the county hasn't properly spent recovery money for Hurricane Harvey damages. The Victoria Advocate received a copy of a letter O'Connor wrote to Victoria County Commissioner Kevin Janak on Nov. 7 asking for an itemized list of Harvey recovery work completed at the sheriff's office and the jail, including work orders and signatures acknowledging the work was completed. He is also asking for documentation showing insurance or Federal Emergency Management Agency claims, among other paperwork showing how money was received and spent.

Fernando Rolon is accused of shooting and killing his Walmart coworker, Melissa Villagrana, on Monday night and then hiding in the Rio 10 theater, prompting the standoff.

Houston Police Department Officer Taylor Roccaforte was shot three times while pursuing a robbery suspect south of Texas Southern University on Sept. 12. Although the first two bullets were stopped by his bulletproof vest, the third hit his colon, bladder, small intestines and a vein.
One week later Taylor Roccaforte walked himself out of the hospital after five-and-a-half hours of surgery headed by Dr. Ethan Taub that required six units of plasma, one unit of platelets and seven units of red blood cells.

In January, Sgt. Mark Swindell saved a man from a burning car.
"I knew that I had been nominated for a life-saving award because I pulled a guy from a burning car,” Sgt. Swindell said.
Months later he shot a dog that was attacking a couple in South Dallas.
"I responded there were other officers and I was forced to use my weapon. I shot the dogs,” Sgt. Swindell said.
