Fannin County Commissioners Court recognizes deputy for life-saving action

All five members of Fannin County Commissioners Court were present for a regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022. The meeting opened with an invocation by David Woodson, Fannin County Treasurer, and pledges were led by Fannin County Pct. 1 Commissioner Edwina Lane. Fannin County Sheriff Mark Johnson presented Sgt. Jonathan McCann of the Fannin County Sheriff's Office for a Live-Saving Award.

West hires new police chief, a former area sheriff

The City of West has a new Chief of Police.
Last week, the West City Council unanimously approved the hiring of Chris White.
“He’s got an excellent resume and application, very, very easy to talk to and just all around felt like there was going to be a good match for the city,” said Tommy Muska, Mayor of West. “He’s too good to pass up.”
White, of Cameron, is the former Sheriff of Milam County who stepped down for personal reasons in March of 2021.

Jasper County Sheriff's Office collecting toys, taking applications for Blue Santa program

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is collecting toys and taking applications for its yearly Blue Santa program.
The Blue Santa is accepting donations of toys as well as monetary donations so that deputies can help provide a better Christmas to children in Jasper County.
Parents hoping to sign up their children for the program will need to apply by December 1, 2022.

The "Most Wanted FURever Home" program will feature animals in need of home each week, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office release. "All MOST WANTED" pets will come with their spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip and registration. Pets will also be sent home with pet food and supplies; like a bowl, leash and collar.

Dozens arrested on various drug trafficking, gambling, prostitution charges in West Texas

Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies have arrested dozens of people across multiple South Plains counties in a series of operations that began Wednesday morning, officials announced Wednesday afternoon.
At least 24 people were arrested Wednesday on state and federal charges including drug trafficking, illegal gambling, prostitution, illegal weapons and conspiracy, law enforcement officials said.

Texas inmate fakes sickness then tries to escape, sheriff's office says

A 30-year-old inmate in Fayette County — roughly an hour’s drive from Austin — told staff Thursday he was feeling sick and was taken by EMS to the St. Mark Emergency Room, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said.
Despite being restrained and in the company of an officer, Deshawn Villanueva managed to escape and run out of the hospital doors, according to a release from the county.
