Investigators are trying to figure out why a 20-year-old Texas A&M student died Tuesday at an off-campus fraternity house. Fraternity members aren't commenting on how a Sigma Phi Epsilon member died. The Brazos County Sheriff's Office was called to the house on Graham Road North Tuesday afternoon after residents found Matthew Hayes unresponsive and gave him CPR.

A deadly sinkhole in an industrial part of San Antonio swallowed two cars Sunday evening, killing one person and nearly trapping another who had to be rescued by passersby. The chasm opened just after 7:30 p.m. in an area where the city is engaged in an "aggressive, vigorous, replacement program" for aging sewer pipes, San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor said at a news conference Monday.

Since beginning to use body-worn cameras in June 2015, the Katy ISD Police Department believes the investment has improved its operations and public trust during a time when police officer accountability continues to be criticized nationwide. One of Katy's neighboring school districts, Fort Bend ISD, will begin to use body cameras this month, according to a recent email the department sent to parents. The move follows a national trend of police departments beginning to use body cameras, and KISD police were among the first departments locally to use the devices following national outcry by the public for officers to wear cameras.

Authorities continue to look into how two Texas fishermen were shot while boating on a border lake. One died from wounds while the other remains under medical care. The shooting took place Tuesday night on Falcon Lake, information provided by the Zapata County Sheriff's Office revealed.

The mother of seven disabled children taken into custody by state welfare workers had an extensive criminal history at the time she adopted the children, according to investigators. A CPS spokesperson says prior to 2006, background checks for prospective parents only covered crimes committed in Texas. That year the requirement was expanded to include the entire U.S.
The state took custody of the children Tuesday after Fort Bend County officials found them malnourished and living in deplorable conditions at a Richmond-area house just before Thanksgiving.
