Brewster County deputy shot in hand during shootout

A Brewster County deputy was hurt in a shooting Wednesday night between Alpine and Marathon.
Sheriff Ronny Dodson confirmed that this shooting started with a car chase in Alpine. The sheriff said two women drove away from a deputy onto the highway.
When the car eventually stopped, shots were fired and one of those suspects was killed while the deputy was shot in the hand.

'A miracle!" 4-year-old boy rescued after spending 6 hours trapped in a well

A 4-year-old boy who fell down a water well in Texas was rescued in dramatic fashion this week after he spent six hours stranded.
The city of Mission shared video of the incredible rescue in Garceño, in which the boy can be seen being pulled to safety while attached to a series of harnesses and ropes as bystanders clap.

Hood County sheriff: 28-year-old man mauled to death in possible mountain lion attack

Hood County authorities suspect that a 28-year-old man was mauled to death by a mountain lion in a wooded area near Lipan, about 85 miles west of Dallas. Christopher Allen Whiteley was reported missing Thursday afternoon, according to a sheriff’s office statement. He was last seen early Wednesday morning near the 15000 block of Howell Road in Lipan.

Travis County Sheriff's Office investigating after 1 shot at apartment complex

The Travis County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting at the Milan apartments near Wells Branch Parkway and Interstate 35.
The shooting happened just after 2:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. The sheriff's office responded to a call of a disturbance involving a gun.
One man was shot and the suspect ran away.

Police in Texas say more than two dozen people who were possibly being held as a part of a human smuggling operation have been removed from a house in Houston.
Officers responded to reports late Thursday, Dec. 3, of a man in his underwear running down a residential street and yelling that he had been kidnapped.

Central Texas sheriffs' anti-sex trafficking efforts featured in CNN's 'This Is Life'

The operation by the Bell and McLennan County sheriff's offices that resulted in the rescue of women from being trafficked at Sunshine Massage in Killeen back in December 2019 was featured on the CNN series "This is Life" Sunday night.
The four-month investigation led officers to the massage parlor and a house in the 2500 block of Bacon Road in Killeen.

Remembering NSA Past President Larry Amerson

The National Sheriffs' Association was sad to announce the passing of Past President Sheriff Larry Amerson, who served as NSA's President for the 2012-2013 term and remained an active influence after his tenure as President. Sheriff Amerson passed away the evening of Thursday, Dec. 3, after a battle with cancer.
