Bell County deputy passes away following crash

Adam Davis, a Bell County sheriff's deputy, has died from injuries sustained in a rollover accident earlier this month. Davis, 36, was responding to reports of a man displaying a gun in public when he crashed his cruiser.

16 arrested in East Texas drug trafficking sting

U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced that 16 individuals have been arrested following a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking in the eastern district of Texas. If convicted, the defendants face from 10 years to life in federal prison.
China Grove disbands police department, now under Bexar County sheriff

The China Grove City Council has voted to disband the small town's three-person police department and to turn law enforcement over to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. City officials didn't immediately provide reasons for disbanding the force.

Search and rescue K9: More than meets the eye

Texas is in the forefront of so many areas when it comes to law enforcement and emergency services. However, one arena where the state still lags behind is in the effective use of the trained search and rescue K9 team. There are a number of good SAR teams around the state, but they are nowhere near as prevalent in Texas as they are in states like California, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico, Virginia, etc. The lost child, lost hiker or wandering Alzheimer's patient is what the SAR K9 team is best known for, but the many skills they possess actually make them a much more versatile tool in the law enforcement tool box.
