A Texas Attorney General agent who was shot nine times while trying to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect is recovering Wednesday in the hospital, along with a Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy also wounded in the shooting that resulted in a lengthy standoff.
The AG agents — Capt. Wes Hensley and Sgt. Mark Rychen — and Deputy James Robert Smejkal III were shot while they were trying to serve an arrest warrant Tuesday to 25-year-old Daniel Trevino.

Authorities are saying a teen girl out for a jog "did everything right" as she managed to escape an alleged kidnapper.
The 15-year-old was out for a run in Alvin, an idyllic suburb south of Houston on the Gulf Coast, at 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 2 when a man repeatedly drove his truck past the teen, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. The man eventually pulled over and approached the girl and wrapped his arms around her.

A police officer and a sheriff's deputy were hospitalized early Thursday after their patrol vehicles collided with each other during a high speed chase in Hunt County, authorities say.
The crash happened shortly after midnight along eastbound Interstate 30 near exit 94 to Texas 69, Sheriff Randy Meeks said in a written statement.

The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) and the Milam County Sheriff's Office were able to arrest Kenneth Kirk, 64, of Cameron, on three counts of passing a forged check.

The sixth annual Global Terrorism Index, published by the Sydney-based Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), said terrorism deaths decreased globally by 27 percent in 2017, which is the third consecutive year of declining death tolls.
Terrorism, however, remains a major threat to global peace, the report said.
