Dozens injured, including Galveston Sheriff's Deputy, during 'Jeep Weekend' on Bolivar Peninsula

From May 27: Nearly 70 people, including a Galveston County sheriff’s deputy were injured over the weekend at the "Go Topless Jeep Weekend" on Bolivar Peninsula. The “largely unsponsored event,” which reportedly drew tens of thousands of people to Crystal Beach on Bolivar Peninsula over the weekend, strained Galveston County emergency services, according to District Manager Doug Saunders.

Nationwide lockdown ending in federal prisons

From Feb. 11: A nationwide lockdown of federal prisons that went into effect due to violence at a Texas facility is coming to an end.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons said in a statement to The Hill that it will “return select facilities to the appropriate modified operational status.”

From May 27: Fort Worth police officers have been told to hold off on arresting people for low-level misdemeanors in response to the Tarrant County Jail being near capacity, according to an internal email obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “The Tarrant County Jail has reached a maximum capacity for population on available bed space and has implemented a new procedure on transporting from municipal jails,” the email says.

Several deputy promotions at Fayette County Sheriff's Office

From Jan. 14: The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is starting the new year with several promotions for new and long-standing deputies. Fayette County Sheriff’s Lieutenant David Beyer said with the new 2022 budget, the sheriff’s office was able to promote two deputies to night patrol sergeants.

US Customs and Border protection officers arrest 34 fugitives since beginning of 2022

From Jan. 21: U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers throughout the El Paso, West Texas and southern New Mexico region have apprehended 34 fugitives from justice since the start of the new year. Some significant arrests made were for aggravated sexual assault of a child, second degree murder, sexual exploitation of a minor, kidnapping of a minor, indecency with a child and lewd acts upon a child.

3 inducted into South Texas museum's Hall of Honor

From Aug. 5: A former Kerr County sheriff, a bullfighting clown and an Irish immigrant to Bandera were inducted into the The Frontier Times Museum’s Texas Heroes Hall of Honor.
Frances Hubble Kaiser, a Bandera County native, served as one of the few female sheriffs in Texas from 1989 to 1999, as Kerr County’s first female sheriff. She and the other honorees accepted their awards at a ceremony this past weekend on a stage outside the museum in Bandera.

Harris County Sheriff's Office K-9 passes away after cancer diagnosis

From March 18: The Harris County Sheriff's Office is in mourning after K-9 Bello passed away following a cancer diagnosis.
According to a post on social media, Bello located explosives statically and on body-worn devices. Bello worked with his handler, fallen Sgt. Mike Thomas, on more than 2,241 vehicle sweeps, 252 open area searches and 178 explosive sweeps.

Ector County Sheriff's Deputy speaks about battle with COVID

From March 11: Sgt. Steve Ramos of the Ector County Sheriff’s Office says he is lucky to be alive. He spent this past Christmas fighting COVID-19.
He got it in mid-December but went into the hospital over a week later when his oxygen saturation went below 70.

East Texas Sheriff: Look out for new phishing scam

From Sept. 23: Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said he has been sent two phishing scam texts with in the last 24 hours and is warning others. Authorities say that the people behind these texts send them to unsuspecting people.
“Once these people get your banking information and clean out your account, there is little or no chance of getting your money back,” Wallace said.
