From July 5: A Texas sheriff's deputy was killed after he was struck by a passing pickup on Interstate 10 while conducting a traffic stop just northwest of San Antonio.
Kendall County Sheriff Al Auxier says Deputy Carlos Ramirez was struck by the pickup Tuesday morning and his partner was injured.

From Aug. 9: The Williamson County Sheriff's Office shared a huge break Wednesday by identifying the woman killed in a 40-year-old cold case, commonly known as "Orange Socks." Sheriff Robert Chody announced that the victim's name is Debra Jackson, 23, of Abilene. Authorities found her body wearing only orange socks in a Georgetown-area concrete ditch on Halloween in 1979.

From June 21: A Texas sheriff's sergeant who died shortly after being found in his car with head injuries apparently suffered a medical emergency and wasn't shot, as deputies initially suspected, authorities said Saturday.
The Tarrant County medical examiner's office determined that Sgt. Keith Shepherd suffered a pulmonary embolism.

From Aug. 2: A dozen law enforcement agencies arrested 19 men last month as part of a joint investigation into allegations of child exploitation, the Collin County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday.
The investigation, known as "Operation Athena," occurred between July 8 and July 12. Led by the Collin County Sheriff's Office, officials investigated people who used the internet for child trafficking and child pornography, according to the sheriff's department.

From Sept. 27: A wanted man who was believed to be armed has now been taken into custody.
The Smith County Sheriff's Office confirmed Jeffery A. Johnston, age 34, was in custody as of Wednesday afternoon after law enforcement used drones, a helicopter, and police dogs in the search. He was taken to a hospital to be checked out after he was taken into custody.
The sheriff's office and the Tyler Police Department were searching for Johnston.

From Oct. 18: The Texas Department of Public Safety provided the "Honor Watch" for fallen K-9 Deputy Matt Jones, according to the Waco Police Department. Jones and Riesel Police Chief Danny Krumnow were hit by a vehicle while on duty Friday. Jones was dead at the scene and Krumnow is still in the hospital.

From July 19: Investigators have developed some leads in the killing of a 32-year-old Wise County woman whose body was found in her burned home on July 5, the sheriff said Monday.
Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin also said the investigation has turned up a possible suspect, but he didn't provide any details.

From Sept. 6: A rampage in Odessa left seven killed and 25 injured, three of whom were law enforcement officials.
A Department of Public Safety state trooper, a police officer from Odessa and a police officer from Midland police were shot while attempting to stop Seth Aaron Ator, 36, whose shooting spree ended when he was killed by police officers last Saturday.

From June 28: The Jones County Sheriff's Office is mourning the death of former Sheriff Larry Moore.
Moore suffered a massive heart attack Wednesday morning, according to family.
According to the sheriff's office, Moore worked in law enforcement for 28 years, including a record 16 years as Jones County Sheriff.

From Oct. 4: When he joined the Harris County Sheriff's Office — and fought for the right to wear his turban and beard — Sandeep Dhaliwal became a trailblazer for Sikhs across North America. Dhaliwal was shot to death Friday during a routine traffic stop. Robert Solis, 47, was arrested later that day and charged with murdering the deputy, a 42-year-old father of three.
