From July 28: An investigation is underway after a longtime deputy with the Harris County Sheriff's Office was found dead in his home overnight. The man's daughter became concerned when she couldn't reach him and called the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office to do a welfare check. Deputies entered the man's home and made the discovery.

From June 23: An arrest has brought out new information in a cold case from the 1980s. It has also lead to some shocking discoveries. KIDY-TV's Senora Scott spoke to Texas Ranger Nick Hanna when the Texas Department of Public Safety highlighted the case in 2016. It started with the arrest of John Gilbreath on other charges — possession of drugs, body armor and firearms. Then came a search warrant. That's where these investigators found more clues related to the murders of Shane Stewart and Sally McNelly.

From Feb. 10: There's a Texas state senator with a new target on his back, courtesy of President Donald Trump and the Rockwall County sheriff. At a meeting Tuesday with sheriffs from around the country, Sheriff Harold Eavenson complained about a state senator who wanted to make it harder for law enforcement to get control of assets forfeited by drug traffickers.
"Do you want to give his name? We'll destroy his career," Trump offered.

From Nov. 10: For nearly 25 years, Joe Tackitt Jr.'s career as Wilson County sheriff was about as quiet as the neighborhood streets in the small towns tucked away in farm and cattle country.
But the peace in this town of about 600 just southeast of San Antonio was recently shattered with the deadly hammering of gunfire in the middle of a worship service at First Baptist Church. And when the death toll jumped, from a handful into the teens and finally to 26, Tackitt's life as a low-key rural sheriff change dramatically.

From Sept. 8: The Bell County Sheriff's Department is cracking down on human sex trafficking after a two-day prostitution sting landed 20 men in jail. Thirteen were active duty soldiers who ranked from Private E-2, Master Sergeant, Major and Chief Warrant Officer 3. Bell County Police said the other seven men were business men from the central Texas area.
The two-day operation happened at motels in Killeen and Salado. Police said once an ad was placed online, it took 20 minutes for the men to start responding.

From June 30: A 15-year-old West Texas girl who was the subject of an AMBER Alert has been found safe in Sevierville, Tennessee, nearly a week after she was reported missing. According to the Brewster County (Texas) Sheriff's Office, Stormie Clemmer was last seen in Alpine on June 22.

From Nov. 3: On Feb. 23, 1985, a local farmer found a naked, decomposed body by the side of a creek on Cliff Rd. outside of Kingston. The body was that of a Hispanic man with "Anita" tattooed on the right arm but his identity remained unknown until recently. Undersheriff Ed Kent said medical examiners were opening cold cases when they found the match through DNA comparison. Now, 32 years later, the Marshall County Sheriff's office is reopening the case.

From April 7: A manhunt intensified Tuesday after a prominent Texas law enforcement officer was gunned down shortly after arriving for work, according to authorities. Clinton Greenwood, an assistant chief deputy to the Harris County Precinct 3 Constable's Office, was fatally shot around 7 a.m. Monday morning outside a county courthouse building — "most likely just after arriving for work," Baytown Police Department Lt. Steve Dorris said at a press conference.

From Feb. 24: A South Texas sheriff says a police officer whose body was found at a law enforcement shooting range had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar said Wednesday the gunshot wound to the chest of Lt. David Medina was "not consistent with foul play."
