'Texas 10 Most Wanted' program hits record number of captures in 2021

From Jan. 7: The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is pleased to announce that in 2021, it had the highest number of Most Wanted Offenders captured in a single year since the program’s inception in 1993. Last year DPS, in cooperation with state, federal, local and Mexican authorities,* captured a record 34 fugitives and sex offenders.

McLennan County Sheriff's Office sends helicopter to the border

From Oct. 7: Some of the arrests made at the U.S.-Mexico border this month were done with the help of the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Parnell McNamara sent a specialized team down to a border county asking for help.
“We never want to turn anybody down if we can possibly help them,” said McNamara.

Central Texas sheriff with 51 years in law enforcement awarded 'quilt of service'

From June 3: Having spent 51-years in law enforcement, McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara has received awards and recognitions before, however, never one "sew" special that "pin" points his service.
McNamara was presented with a "quilt of service" in front of a crowd of his family, friends and staff at the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office.
The award was a well-kept surprise.

New details released in search for missing Texas State student

From Jan. 14: On Dec. 13, 2020, 21-year-old Texas State student Jason Landry disappeared on a drive from San Marcos to his hometown of Missouri City, Texas.
His crashed car was found on a gravel road in Luling’s oilfield. The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office believes he stripped naked in the street leaving his belongings behind.

Fort Worth Police implement new violent crime plan

From April 22: The Fort Worth Police Department is continuing to work to reduce crime happening across the city, with a focus on getting drugs and guns off of the streets.
In many crime-ridden areas, criminals are hiding behind certain businesses. WFAA saw Fort Worth police officers stop a car for possible drugs and guns inside.

Sheriff launches multi-county targeted patrol unit

From March 4: Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha’s vision of getting drugs off the streets of Kerr County was enhanced after he sealed a deal to implement a three-county drug interdiction patrol unit that will focus on drug dealers and their couriers, while also helping with the human smuggling epidemic.

North Texas officer arrested for allegedly bringing phone into inmate's cell

From Oct. 14: A North Texas officer has been placed under arrest after bringing a cell phone into an inmate's cell, according to the Collin County Sheriff's Office.
On Oct. 10, 2022, a detention officer discovered a cell phone and charger in an inmate’s cell in the Collin County jail. Detention Officer Tyler Moody, an employee since October 2019, confessed to sheriff’s investigators that he brought the contraband into the jail and provided it to the inmate.

Dallas County Sheriff's Deputy Keith Rose saves child's life in traffic

From June 10: The parents of a 4-year-old are praising the quick actions of Dallas County Sheriff's Deputy Keith Rose after he saved their daughter's life in the middle of a traffic intersection. Deputy Rose sprung into action on May 31 while sitting in his car at the intersection of E. Camp Wisdom just before the bridge over I-35.

Men posing as cops kick down door and open fire on family in Texas home, sheriff says

From Nov. 18: Men in body armor claiming to be police kicked down a door and opened fire on a Texas family who fired back, authorities said. One suspect died in the firefight. Two men claiming to be the Houston police department kicked in the door of a home just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, the Harris County Sheriff Office said in a news conference recorded by KHOU. A woman and her two adult sons were inside the home at the time, deputies said.

Suspected drug dealer busted in Kilgore, Texas with shocking pet

But recently the Rusk County Sheriff's Office posted online about one of the most unusual incidents they have had in a while when serving a search warrant on a home in Kilgore, Texas.

Texas couple honored for following murder suspect who shot deputy

From Aug. 26: The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office is honoring a couple that helped law enforcement track down a murder suspect who shot a deputy in the face.
Sheriff Jeff Neal recognized Johnny and Victoria Stevens for their heroic acts on the night of Aug. 6, when police say 32-year-old Hector Alejandro Pintor Aguilar shot Lt. Scott Lillis in the face during a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and South Kings Highway south of Texarkana.
