Lubbock County: Lieutenant named Employee of the Month; officer deputized Sheriff Kelly Rowe recognized Lieutenant Anthony Castillo as Employee of the Month for June. Lieutenant Castillo was on his way home when he came upon an accident involving a Lubbock Police Department officer and a CITI bus, finding the officer trapped in his burning patrol vehicle. Lieutenant Castillo quickly intervened, grabbing his fire extinguisher and suppressed the fire. He was able to get the officers attention through the wreckage speaking calmly keeping the officer conscious as he was badly injured; Lieutenant Castillo exhibited quick thinking and sound decisions, going above and beyond.
Additionally, Sheriff Rowe deputized Kathleen Opaitz and welcomed her to the Court Division. Pictured below, from left to right, are Sheriff Rowe, Deputy Opaitz and Lieutenant Castillo.
Houston County: Sheriff's office welcomes new deputy Houston County Sheriff Justin Killough (left) welcomes Gene Osborn, the newest deputy to join the sheriff's office. Deputy Osborn has 10 years military experience with the United States Marine Corps and graduated from the Houston Community College Police Academy in April 2020. |
