Texas Rangers, Wood County Sheriff's Office investigating homicide that occurred near Quitman
KLTV-TV
Authorities in Wood County have made an arrested in connection with a homicide and an attempted homicide that occurred near Quitman early Sunday morning, according to Sheriff Tom Castloo, who said the suspect is in custody after a six-hour search.The ongoing investigation into the incident is being led by the Texas Rangers. Law enforcement officers are still at the scene, Castloo said.

Lubbock County: Lieutenant named Employee of the Month; officer deputized
Sheriff Kelly Rowe recognized Lieutenant Anthony Castillo as Employee of the Month for June. Lieutenant Castillo was on his way home when he came upon an accident involving a Lubbock Police Department officer and a CITI bus, finding the officer trapped in his burning patrol vehicle. Lieutenant Castillo quickly intervened, grabbing his fire extinguisher and suppressed the fire. He was able to get the officers attention through the wreckage speaking calmly keeping the officer conscious as he was badly injured; Lieutenant Castillo exhibited quick thinking and sound decisions, going above and beyond.

Additionally, Sheriff Rowe deputized Kathleen Opaitz and welcomed her to the Court Division. Pictured below, from left to right, are Sheriff Rowe, Deputy Opaitz and Lieutenant Castillo.

Houston County Sheriff Justin Killough (left) welcomes Gene Osborn, the newest deputy to join the sheriff's office. Deputy Osborn has 10 years military experience with the United States Marine Corps and graduated from the Houston Community College Police Academy in April 2020.

Suspect identified in fatal stabbing of Comal man, police say

The Comal County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim in a fatal stabbing that happened on Sunday, and apprehended a suspect in the case.The victim was identified as 53-year-old Kyle Leonard Foster from Canyon Lake, Texas. The Sheriff's Office said a preliminary investigation revealed that Foster received a "fatal stab wound to the neck."

Black transgender woman found dead; Dallas police seek public's help

Dallas police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old Black transgender woman found shot to death in a parking lot Tuesday.A passerby found Merci Mack, 22, unconscious at about 6:15 a.m. with apparent gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Rosemont Apartments at 3015 East Ledbetter Drive, the Dallas Police Department said. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Dallas Police Chief U. Reneé Hall on Tuesday announced a policy to release videos of police shootings and use-of-force incidents within three days of someone suffering serious injuries or dying. But it was unclear how the changes would work in practice.Videos of police shootings and in-custody deaths are often a challenge to obtain through open records laws because the department will often consider them part of an "ongoing investigation" and withhold their release.
