Artist presents mural to widow of East Texas deputy killed on duty

A Shreveport Police captain and a Louisiana artist made a special presentation Wednesday of an original portrait of a fallen East Texas deputy sheriff to his family.Panola County Deputy Christopher Dickerson was shot and killed in the line of duty on New Year's Eve 2019 after a man opened fire on him during a traffic stop.

Hopkins County Sheriff's Office arrests Como man for possession of child pornography

Hopkins County Sheriff's Office arrested a 30-year-old Como man on Tuesday on a warrant for possession or promotion of child pornography. HCSO investigators served search warrants on three addresses recently as part of an investigation into child pornography. HCSO seized multiple devices and searched them for evidence.

Nacogdoches Sheriff's Department searching for man accused of sexual abuse of child
KETK-TV
The Nacogdoches Sheriff's Department is searching for a man accused of continuous sexual abuse of a child.Deundra Demond Bryant Jr., 23, is suspected of sexual abuse of a child younger than 14 years of age for more than 20 times.The warrant for his arrest was issued on June 19 after an ongoing investigation.

A man reported missing in Camp County last week has been found dead. According to the Camp County Sheriff's Office, Josh Searcy, 37, was found dead early Wednesday morning.

2 people shot, 2 suspects taken into custody in Van Zandt County
KLTV-TV
Two people were injured and two people were arrested following a shooting Wednesday evening in Van Zandt County.According to the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office, Deputies were dispatched to the area of FM 198 and FM 1651 in reference to shots fired and two shooting victims being injured. Sheriffs Deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers arrived in the area, located the shooting victims and rendered life-saving first aid.

Dallas officer recovering after being injured in rollover crash
KTVT-TV
An officer with the Dallas Police Department was injured overnight after flipping a squad car. According to officials, the crash happened around 11:15 p.m. as the officer traveled south on Polk Street, heading to assist police at a scene. The officer, whose name has not been released, was riding with lights and sirens on when control of the cruiser was lost near Camp Wisdom Road.

Officer runs into a burning house, saves 8-year-old boy

As flames erupted on a mobile home in Texas, a police officer ran into the burning building to save a family trapped inside and it was all caught on camera. As Cristobal Marin was driving to pick up feed for his horses in Socorro, a city in El Paso County, he saw a large plume of smoke. Marin told CNN he turned in the direction of the smoke, which was coming from a residential area, to see if he could help.

Standards for law enforcement firearms instructor certification courses released

There has been a disparity in the length and content of law enforcement firearms instructor certification courses across the nation for many years. A current trend is for training organizations to offer a three-gun instructor certification (pistol, shotgun and rifle) in just 40 hours. In May 2019 a national committee was created to establish recommended standards for law enforcement firearms instructor certification courses. This committee consisted of experienced firearms instructors and subject matter experts from across the country, and representatives from five law enforcement organizations that have a vested interest in firearms training and instructor certifications.
