Brazos County: Deputy named Employee of the Month Deputy Eric Thomas has been selected after a vote of the lieutenants as the employee of the month for June 2020. On June 25, Robertson County Sheriff's Office tracked a dangerous felon to a residence in Brazos County. This person had multiple felony warrants, making threats to kill family members in Robertson County and was suspected to be armed. A surveillance operation was started at this person's residence, but the suspect was able to slip away.
This didn't stop Deputy Thomas, who began a search quickly locating the suspect's vehicle. Deputy Thomas initiated a traffic stop but the suspect fled out of the vehicle on foot. Deputy Thomas gave chase catching the suspect. It was also determined the occupants of the vehicle discarded a bag of narcotics and credit cards. The vehicle was located a short time later abandoned. This vehicle was determined to have been purchased fraudulently and seized at the request of the Robertson County Sheriff's Office.
Without Deputy Thomas's quick actions and determination this dangerous felon would have eluded capture.
Orange County: Commissioners name Lane Mooney as new sheriff
After formally accepting a letter of resignation from Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt, the Orange County Commissioners' Court voted to name presumptive Sheriff-elect Jimmy Lane Mooney of Vidor as the new Orange County sheriff effective July 1.
According to The Vidor Vidorian, the Orange County Commissioners' Court voted, not once, but twice, in two separate agenda items, to accept the resignation letters of two Orange County elected officials. The Court first took action to accept the retirement letter of Sheriff Merritt, who had previously announced that he would retire from his elected office six months before his term as sheriff ended on Dec. 31. |
