Hopkins County Sheriff's Office discovers $109,000 in cash during I-30 traffic stop

The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office discovered $109,000 and a small amount of cocaine in a vehicle during a traffic stop on I-30 Wednesday. Dion Mitchell McLendon, Round Rock, and Andrea Yates, Austin, were pulled over 126 mile marker on I-30 westbound for a traffic violation. He admitted to possessing a large amount of currency and refused permission to search the vehicle.

Comal County sheriff's deputy shot while serving warrant
KSAT-TV
A Comal County sheriff's deputy was shot Thursday while serving a felony warrant, officials said. According to the Comal County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, deputies were serving the warrant at a home in the 1400 block of Springwood in Spring Branch when one of the deputies was shot. The deputy was airlifted to University Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Woman accused of trafficking West Texas youth now charged with firearm offenses

A 43-year-old Saltillo woman accused earlier this month of trafficking a youth from West Texas to Hopkins County has also been charged with firearm offenses. Romany Michael Ruble, who is also known as Romany Michael Cathey, has been in Hopkins County jail since Aug. 9, when she was accused of picking up a runaway in West Texas approximately one week before.

Longtime Llano rancher charged with animal cruelty calls case a 'tragic accident'
KXAN-TV
A well-known longtime farmer and rancher in the Texas hill country has been arrested and accused of animal cruelty related to both dead and live pigs found on the Schenken Genetics ranch in Llano. Former Llano city council member, local agriculture teacher and mentor, former bank vice-president and realtor Craig Bauman, 41, turned himself in at the Llano County Jail Thursday morning on two charges of cruelty to livestock animals, a Class A misdemeanor.

East Texas teacher jailed on child porn charges
KTRE-TV
A Carlisle ISD High School teacher is facing two counts of child pornography charges. The school board is set to determine its next steps in the matter, including the teacher's employment status. According to Harrison County jail records, 39-year-old Blake Harris faces two counts of "possession of child pornography," a felony, and two counts of "obscene wholesale promotion." The charges stem from a July 19 arrest. Jail records also show, since June, Harris was also booked into jail two previous times on charges of "tampering with a witness" and "disorderly conduct harassment."

Illegal alien from Honduras with ICE detainer sentenced to 45 years in prison for murder
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
An illegal alien from Honduras with a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer pleaded guilty to first degree murder and was sentenced to 45 years in prison Monday in Montgomery County. Melvin Ramirez-Russel, 39, was brought to ICE's attention by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in January after they arrested him for brutally killing Gerardo Munoz de la Paz and attempting to cover up the crime by disposing of the body.

Aircraft goes down at West Texas airfield

Authorities responded the report of a plane crash at Schlemeyer Field in Odessa Thursday morning, according to the Ector County Sheriff's Office. Odessa Fire Rescue and Odessa Police said that just after 10 a.m. they were dispatched to the call at the Schlemeyer Airport.

Cooke County notified thousands of residents of data breach

More than 2,000 letters were recently mailed out mostly to North Texans notifying them that their personal information might've been compromised during a July cyberattack, according to Cooke County Judge Jason Brinkley. The judge said notices were mailed early last week by a third-party service that is assisting in the notification process. On July 4, a ransomware attack on the county's information system for the Cooke County Sheriff's Office resulted in the data breach of personal identification information, the Gainesville Daily Register previously reported.
