Deputy stops 3rd suicide attempt in more than a month at Bexar County Jail

A Bexar County Jail inmate’s attempt to kill himself — the third incident in more than a month — was interrupted by a detention deputy Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The deputy was making routine checks on inmates at 3:13 p.m. when he saw a 42-year-old man trying to take his own life, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Harris County Precinct 4 deputy shot during ambush returns to work

A Harris County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable, who was hospitalized after being shot while trying to make an arrest in north Harris County, returned to his patrol duties on Monday. Deputy Christopher Hendrix was ambushed and shot by a suspect while responding to a disturbance call in the 13000 block of Ella Boulevard at the Cranbrook Apartments on July 7.

Father, son zip-tied during violent home invasion in Tarrant County

The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home invasion robbery on Tuesday night that left one person injured. According to the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, two men entered a home on the 5300 block of Hidden Valley Court at approximately 11:17 p.m. The neighborhood is in an unincorporated area of Tarrant County south of Fort Worth and north of Burleson, according to Lt. Jennifer Gabbert. The victims are a father and son who were zip-tied and held at gunpoint, Gabbert said.

24, including alleged Aryan Circle gang members, indicted for violent crimes in multiple states

Five indictments in three different states were unsealed Wednesday indicting a total of 24 defendants, including alleged Aryan Circle (AC) gang members and associates, on charges of racketeering conspiracy, violent crimes in aid of racketeering, drug conspiracy and unlawful firearms trafficking. These indictments are part of a larger investigation into the AC, Operation Noble Virtue, that has targeted AC leadership and has resulted in 17 federal convictions in six jurisdictions to date.

One day before the one-year anniversary of the tragic death of Falls County Deputy Matt Jones, dozens gathered at his family's farm honored him with a "Walk for the Badge" at his parents' farm in Mart. Jones died Oct. 11, 2019, along Highway 6 near Riesel. Jones and Riesel Police Chief Danny Krumnow were assisting a motorist when a vehicle hydroplaned into them.

The statistics are staggering: More than 70,000 people died of a drug overdose in 2017, and 68% of those deaths were due to an opioid. In 2018 there was a modest 4.6% reduction in overdose deaths nationally, but estimates for 2019 completely erased those gains. This rebound in overdose deaths is a result of the modest decrease being viewed as a victory and focus shifting away from opioids.
