The Texas Panhandle is still in the grip of severe drought conditions, but this year's temperatures and precipitation rates suggest that conditions are improving, meteorologists said. About 60 percent of the continental United States is experiencing drought, but the Texas Panhandle is no stranger to hot, dry weather after going through the worst drought in state history during 2011. Although this year's weather has been less extreme, temperatures were still above average and precipitation was below average, National Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Moulton said. More

Turtle Wax Inc. announced it will sell its Professional Products business to a partner company, Transchem Inc., according to a press release. The Dec. 19 release stated that Turtle Wax worked with Transchem for three years and utilized the company's technology and manufacturing facilities to produce the Professional Product line. More

Georgia car wash fire ruled an arson

Rubble and charred debris are all that remain of the Ultimate Car Wash along Augusta Road, and fire officials say an investigation revealed that it was no random accident. Garden City Fire responded to a call just before 8 p.m. on Dec. 27. Firefighters arrived to find the building fully engulfed in flames, but they were able to quickly control and extinguish the fire.
