2015 forecasts mixed on drought, aquifer

The Texas state climatologist said he feels better than he has in years that a stubborn drought may finally loosen its grip on Texas in 2015, even though local hydrology forecasts indicate San Antonio still will face more unprecedented cutbacks on pumping from the Edwards Aquifer, its main water source.

Abilene, Texas, car wash businesses boom due to melted ice

The aftermath of the winter storm put a damper on many vehicles throughout the Big Country in Texas. Residents in Abilene headed to car washes to get their cars clean and shiny. Employees at Mister Hot Shine Car Wash, on Buffalo Gap Road, say they saw an increase in cars as soon as the ice began to melt. Recently, they had 384 cars in one day. According to the car wash, people want to make sure they're getting all the salt off their car.

Texas House District 13 candidates ready to talk water conservation

Public education, water conservation and budgetary responsibility are among the top priorities for candidates hoping to be elected to the Texas House District 13 seat in January. Candidates are Republicans Becky Berger, a geologist of Schulenburg; Carolyn Cerny Bilski, Austin County judge of Sealy; Leighton Schubert, an attorney of Caldwell; and Democrat Cecil R. Webster Sr., a retiree of Carmine. The four hope to succeed Lois Kolkhorst, who resigned from the post after being elected to the Texas Senate in December.

Nation's largest car wash chain acquires new sites
Professional Carwashing & Detailing
Mister Car Wash has added two Travel Clean locations to its business in Utah, according to a press release. The acquisition brings its total number of car washes to 136 across 14 states, said the release. Mister Car Wash operates 10 washes and one lube center in the Salt Lake City area.
