Texas lenders approve $1 billion more in small business loans

U.S. Treasury Department officials recently released a new report showing that Small Business Lending Fund bank participants in Texas have increased their small business lending by $1.12 billion over baseline levels. Nationwide, SBLF participants have boosted small business lending by $11.2 billion over baseline levels.

At first blush pairing a car wash/detail center with a barber shop doesn't make much sense. The businesses have little in common and require completely different skill sets to operate. But the two industries have one important thing in common: customer service. Owner Gary Domel opened the wash in 1999. He had recently moved into the Bee Cave, Texas, area and noticed that the Austin suburb had no car wash facilities. Seeing an opportunity, the recently retired Dell executive began exploring the car wash business and decided to give it a go, building a first-class facility on the main road between Bee Cave and Austin.

Immigration fraud leads to guilty pleas in Danny's Car Wash case

Half of the members of Danny's Car Wash who were arrested on immigration fraud charges have plead guilty, according to station KPHO. In the federal indictment, it is alleged that the car wash fired employees who were illegally in the U.S., and then hired some of them back, knowing they were illegal immigrants. Management is accused of rehiring employees after helping them to obtain fraudulent documents.

Man attacked, robbed at east Tulsa car wash
KOTV-TV
A man recently washing his food service truck was robbed at gunpoint near 21st and Garnett. Police say the armed robbery victim was at the Clearwater Car Wash when he was approached by two men, one carrying a handgun. The gunmen also hit the robbery victim on the head, knocking him out, according to an officer at the scene. They took his cellphone, wallet and cash.

VideoBrief Jeff Riney, owner of First Avenue Car Wash in Evansville, Ind., said he saw more business than usual this past Friday because of salt on cars from the cold spell earlier in the week. However, Riney said he took Mayor Lloyd Winnecke’s request for water conservation seriously. Riney said he turned off the only piece of high pressure equipment at the car wash.

Brooklyn car wash worker dies after being hit by accelerating SUV

A car wash employee died in a recent freak accident at work in Brooklyn, cops said. The worker was inside a 2010 Lincoln Navigator and trying to move it forward at the Automated Hand Car Wash at Bedford and Atlantic Aves. in Bed-Stuy when the SUV suddenly accelerated into Atlantic Ave., said cops and witnesses.
